How can I help my mother-in-law make friends or find a significant other?

My mother in-law is a widow of 9+ years.  She is intellegent and interested in reading, art, gardening, crafts, etc.  The problem is she is one of the most negative people I have ever met and often feels like others are judging her or reads nasty internions or tones into what they say.  She moved a couple years ago to a town near us and doesn't really know anyone there so she is lonely. She has not dated since her husband died and while she talks about how badly he treated her, at the same time she has him on this pedestal that no other man could compare to.  She also constantly has money problems.  My husband is worried about her but at the same time can't deal with her negativity and taking it our on him.  She really is a smart and interesting person, she just has a big chip on her shoulder. Any suggestions for how to help her make friends or find a boyfriend?

first and foremost have her work on removing the negativity

if she wants to attract new friends and possible lovers, only positive people can do that

then join local garden clubs and other interests

try the dating sites,  www.plentyoffish.com is free .  it may be fun for her to see who may be out there looking for the same thing

but a big MUST is a positive attitude
