bearded dragon heating?
Hi, I am getting temps of up to 100F around the basking spot, temps from 75 to 65F in the cooler half. How can I raise and regulate temps in the cool end to around the 75-80F needed?
Thanks

Assuming you are talking about during the day time, adding a 40 watt incandescent bulb on the cool side should do the trick. If you find it heats up too much, you can add a lamp dimmer to bring it down a few degrees.
Sound like you're a newer hobbyist, which is great. You seem to be at least understanding the basic needs. I would try a regular household light bulb at the end you want a bit warmer. You didn't say what size your tank actually was. I have 4 - 55 gallons going and not having any problems keeping my temps right. I also do not use the basking bulbs sold at the pet stores. They are just a fancy version of a reg. household bulb. If you switch to these get several different wattages and test them out. Be sure too what you are measuring the temps with. Use a digital probe which is so much more accurate than the stick on types. Just a thougth but have you tried moving the basking bulb a few inches toward the cooler side, then check your temps again.

I have two suggestions for you. First, you can either buy a low watt heat bulb (not white). The ceramic ones work the best so it does not disrupt the dragon's sleep. Use this on the cooler side of the tank, but be careful to watch that the temperature doesn't go above 80 degrees.
Second, you can buy a regular heating pad and place it underneath the tank on the cooler side. Just make sure you keep it on low. I have done this when our house temperatures were low and it did work well.
I hope this helps. :)

If you get good full spectrum lights for the cool end of the tank, they will help raise the temperature to where you need it to be.
These lights will also provide the best output of UVA and UVB the bearded dragon needs.
Good luck.
