Do any other atheists wish that....?
people would stop assuming Richard Dawkins is our version of god, and The God Delusion is our bible?
I mean, it just seems like there are so many questions that say "well Dawkins said this so blah blah blah." It's like, yeah, Dawkins said it. And your point is....? Not all of us agree with everything he says.
Do theists honestly think we worship him?

They simply assume we must have a leader. They can't comprehend us all just being independent think-for-our-self-ers.

No, I don't think all atheists worship Dawkins. I do get worried about the ones that do. I have met some that use Dawkins as an excuse for intolerance and hatred. I will never forget young idiots screaming "your infected" etc outside of a church where I went to a friends wedding. The police had to be called to stop it. Hate, no matter what side it comes from is wrong!

I've encountered this attitude a lot lately, but it's likely due to the fact that I started reading The God Delusion last month and have been quoting from it in defense of my position/views now and then.
However, I also rely on other authors for support and evidence of my views. Nor do I agree with everything Dawkins says. In fact, I take issue with a fair amount of it as it feels like an evangelical approach to atheism. Bit of an antithesis, that.

People tend to think in patterns, not logically, my dear, or hadn't you noticed? So if you believe in God, have a person in authority (like, say, the Pope) who regularly interprets Holy Writ for you, and you base your world view on this sort of a structure, you tend to assume that's how everybody does it. Then you meet somebody who says, "Boo! I don't go along with that!"
Well, you don't know what to make of such a person, so you mentally construct an anti-self parody without realizing it. There's yourself in opposite form, the anti-you (the atheist). There's the God of your belief in opposite form, the anti-God (so what can this be -- has to be something pretty big, eh?). There's the Interpreter of Holy Writ in his opposite form, your anti-Pope (somebody fancy pants and smarty pants and loud and out there). And there's the Holy Book itself in its opposite form, the anti-Bible (Richard Dawkins' book).
At different times and in different places those opposites will be filled in somewhat differently, depending on who is big and loud and ostentatious in atheist circles. But that's the template. Because that's how the deist thinks, you see. Or, more precisely, doesn't really think, just reacts. It's like programming, really. It's automatic due to the habit of thinking deistically and then coming up against the real non sequitor, the atheist, which doesn't compute.

Certain theists need to attack atheists in the false assumption that doing so will validate their beliefs in their gods.
Atheism is nothing more than the non-belief in any gods. Theists have a hard time attacking a position of non-belief. They need more meat, so they create it by assuming that Dr. Dawkins is the atheist prophet, and that his manifesto is the atheist bible. It is a trap that they hope atheists will fall into by defending these things much the same way the christians defend their bible and their messiah.
Another thing that makes some christians comfortable with this false assumption is that it closely resembles the leap of faith they already made with worshiping their messiah and manifesto.

"Do theists honestly think we worship him?"
They are well and truly programmed to believe that every one MUST worship something; if not the fundie breed of invisible sky critter then the 'debbil' or even Richard Dawkins; they can NOT believe that a life can be lived without worshiping something.
They're very sad actually; it's a shame that such ignorance has such power, huh?

Your right on Amber,.,Auzziegob doesn't worship anyone...........Auzziegob certainly admires Dawko's incredible intellect and insight.
Plus he has a very good sense of humour !
The same goes for the disheveled an scruffy looking Chris Hitchens, who always looks half tanked or hungover,.,.,he's another amazingly well knowledged Atheist who delusional godgobbers quote incessantly as Atheists only experts.
godgobbers here in Answers are obviously extremely jealous of these type of well versed Atheists,.,.,the godgobbers have nothing but godgobberosis and godsmucky jesus junk to rant on about !

People are stupid-
WE don't believe in ANY God!
We don't worship the devil, "Richard Dawkins", a stuffed animal, a Cheeseburger from McDonalds (Well... some of us.. >_>)
We just live for the hell of it, not to worship anyone/anything.

Yes i do, but I do find it a little funny. Just worried about were they may end up going with it.
Of course many christians are led to believe that all people must follow someone. This is done no doubt to help keep the believers themselves in a submissive position. So they have to suppose that is what atheist are doing. Which is why in some circles they suppose that atheist means one who is rebellious and thinks themselves to be god. Many christians actually do this to each other also. When it comes to certain preachers or christian artist, they warn against making a god out of the 'man'. Like as if its something we as humans have in our nature to do.

I like Dawkins because I happen to agree with many of his points, and I'm sure many other atheists do as well, though I fail to see how that translates into us deifying him.....Religionists shape their entire life around worship, not surprising that they project that mindset onto everyone else.

I think some theists think you worship Dawkins and science in general. Granted, those theists do not belong to MENSA.
