What charity should I donate to?

Being that this is the holiday season and a lot of people are having a tough time of it these days, I'd really like to make a donation somewhere.

But I'd really like to donate to a charity that's:

1) REALLY worthwhile (help save lives, put food on tables, clothes on backs, etc.) and

2) efficiently run (almost every dollar I donate is going to the people who need it)

Any suggestions?

Most towns have a food bank. They provide groceries to people in your community. I understand that most food banks have a real need right now with so many people out of work. They're usually very efficient with low overhead costs. They usually welcome volunteers to help prepare food baskets and to assist their "shoppers". That keeps their costs low and helps to create a sense of community. You should be able to find your local food bank in your phone book. Just look under "Charities".

First of all good for you! It is a great thing to donate especially in these times when people need it the most. I would donate to a charity that you feel passionate about, maybe even if you've had something thats affected you and you want to give to an organization that works with that subject. sometimes, donating to smaller nonprofits really makes a difference to the people they help with your donation because it goes directly to the people. I am really close with a few people that have nonprofits they started because of personal experiences and they want to make sure it never happens to anyone so they put everything they have into it. There is a small organization called My Mother's Voice who helps get mothers and their children out of violent situations and get them back on their feet, as well as giving resources to single parent families and supports teenage parents who have children and are trying to finish school. They try to give them hat they need (food, shoes, things for their babies/children). I feel that it is a worthy cause and my friend puts everything towards it. every dollar she gets helps buy socks for a baby or food for the family. but really, give to a place that you really feel good about donating to, it will be so rewarding.

The Salvation Army is one of the most prestigious and true to the community charitable organizations out there. This would be my top suggestion.

    One Bowl at a time.

This is a charity I just found yesterday and for every dollar you give to feed hungry Americans, Kraft foods matches your donations.

Christmas Angel is a wonderful program, this is the one I do at Christmas time. I enjoy shopping for this, I love to shop, and someone else gets their wish for Christmas.

definite you're able to do this, even though it you will nonetheless be out of pocket for the version between the donation and the tax decrease fee rates. in case you donated the $10k you will save approximately $3,3 hundred in taxes yet might nonetheless have $6,seven-hundred under you will possibly have had in case you had no longer made the donation. somewhat, $250k falls approximately halfway in the 33% bracket so which you will no longer drop a bracket besides. Spending money to save taxes especially much in no way will pay off. Make the donation for the stable that it does, no longer for any tax decrease fee rates.

there are many charities that are not well known that truly do need help. there is one in kibera slums-kenya that looks out mostly for aids orphans and orphaned children. it provides them with free education and food, at times clothing. the goodness of this is that once educated, the children are able to secure jobs thus reducing reliance when old. if you require further information, contact the founder on essymboina@yahoo.com. this will be to a very worthy cause. all the best.

I'm not trying to solicit myself or anything, but I'm a teacher at a school in a very low-income neighborhood, many recent immigrants working 2 and 3 jobs just to put food on the table for their families. Every year, we participate in the largest field trip in the world (it's in the Guinness book of World Records!) to Washington DC. Only the 5th grade safety patrols (my best, brightest, and most responsible students) go, but the trip costs $800.00 per child. We do lots of fundraising (car washes, rummage sales, etc.), but it is hard to make up the difference between what parents can pay and the actual cost of the trip through car washes and chocolate bar sales alone.

Just to give you an idea of our need, this year alone, I have students who look forward to cafeteria lunches because all they have at home is rice and milk. I have students who have been homeless. I have one girl whose mother died of cancer two years ago. I have a girl whose father passed away also of cancer, and can't pay for the trip because her family had to pay for her father's funeral in Guatemala. I have a girl who witnessed someone being shot in her own home because all her family could afford was to rent a room in a low-rent apartment.

I could go on and tell you all about each of their hardships, but what is more important to tell you is that each of them come to school everyday with a good attitude and ready to learn. These truly are kids that deserve this opportunity.

If you have it in your heart this holiday season, we are still accepting donations.

If you'd like, please make your check out to South Grade Safety Patrols

    and send it to:

    South Grade Elementary

    Attn: Safety Patrol Coordinator

    716 S. "K" St.

    Lake Worth, FL 33460

    Thank you for your generosity!

    FEEDTHECHILDREN.COM

You will be amazed at what this organization does to help feed children in America and across the world. They are one of the oldest and most generous charity organizations.

Go to their website and read up.

St. Judes Hospital is also a good one.

Donate food to the food bank. Starving is really painful, and so many people are enduring it. 100% of what you donate goes to those who need it.
