I have a 2000 GMC jimmy that won't shift into 4wd when it's cold. What will it take to fix this?

If I shift into 4wd when it's warmer in the middle of the day and park it, it will still be en 4wd (and working) in the cold morning.

Update:

I'm assuming this is a somewhat common problem that can likely be assumed to be a certain problem--say it needs some fluid changed.

Obviously no one can 100% for sure diagnose it over the internet.

Update 2:

The cut off temp seems to be about 35, 36 degrees. When it's warmer, it works perfectly everytime. When it's colder, I'm stuck with only 2wd

It would take a proper diagnosis by a trained professional to determine what is causing this, then having it repaired.
