Hi!
You say that you will be visiting by road. Rohtang Pass (Manali-Leh) may not open so early in the year. You may have to travel through Srinagar- Kargil- Leh.
Presuming that you will be taking the Srinagar route, you can check out Drass, Lamayuru, Alchi, Likir on the way to Leh. Stay at Kargil at ZojiLa Hotel for the night. Next day on way see the gompas as stated above.
At Leh, you will have many options. Dont book so early. The tourist season starts in late May, so all Hotels will be empty.
From Leh, you can visit Nubra valley (depending on the weather since April will be cold!) if the Khardung-La pass remains open. The army generally keeps this route open. Stay at Deskit at a small guest house called Olthang GH. Visit Deskit Gompa, Hunder, and Samstarling Gompa across the Nubra river.
Return to Leh and visit Hemis, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Sankar Gompa.
Dont miss out on Pangang Lake, and if you have time do visit Tso Moriri Lake. You will find other details in various websites-
