Infection? Don't fret if the tattoo shop smells like green soap you are on the right path. It is very rare to have a tattoo get infected because of the fact it is in the first 3 layers of your skin. If your body feels itchy or anything that might annoy you that is just the tattoo healing. It really and all truthfulness feels like rug burn or a slight scrape. If on that rare chance you get MERCA or Leprosy i would turn around and sue the parlor but the green soap kills all outer skin viruses and bacteria that lays on the skin. After care infection is even rare too enless you plan on rolling in mud or even playing in a dumpster which i doubt you do. But if you do any dirty work that light get mud on it while it heals don't fret it is just the first 3 layers of skin and your body will fight it off before you even notice anything.

Visuals count when you walk into a tattoo studio. Make sure the area is clean, the artists use new needles, this is important. If need be go round to the studio and watch them work before you decide to go for it.

Generally most tattoo studios nowadays follow protocol like using new needles. Just stay away from scratchers that tattoo in their basement.

Do your research and find a good tattoo parlor in your area. The artist should be careful to let you see them take out their tattooing utensils and other such stuff, and a good tattoo artist is very careful to keep everything sterile and sanitized.

The artist should also give you instructions on proper care, to keep infection away, and using ointments such as A&D will help keep away the risk of infection.

No worries, just make sure to do your research and make yourself informed. Go for it! :)

Before all the artist open their shop for business they have to be certified and checked bye the government first... and they have something that they can tell you after you get your tat2 done as the aftercare sheet.

So they pretty much safe and sterile for doing their job...

With proper hygiene and a good artist the chances are pretty slim. As for how to tell if they're clean, just look around the shop, it's pretty easy to tell a clean shop from a dirty one.
