Crochet Pattern Help Please?

Hey, I am having a problem joining motifs ( the place where i am joining them at looks puffy and weird) can someone please explain :

Round 4 (joining round): Work as for Round 4 of first motif, except, to join sides of neighboring motifs, work ch-3-join or ch-5-join instead of corner ch-3 or side ch-5, respectively, as follows:

ch-3-join: Ch 1, slip st in corresponding ch-3 corner sp of neighboring motif, ch 1.

ch-5-join: Ch 2, slip st in corresponding ch-5 side sp of neighboring motif, ch 2.

and how do I continue / work that in to the first motif's round 4!??!?!?!

Thanks ;)

I have pasted the whole pattern below......

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRST MOTIF

Chain 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, [sc in ring, ch 2] 8 times; join with slip st in first sc—8 sc and 8 ch-2 sps.

Round 2: Slip st in first ch-2 sp, ch 2, Beg-Cl in same ch-2 sp, [ch 5, Cl in next ch-2 sp] 7 times, ch 5; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—8 clusters and 8 ch-5 sps.

Round 3: Slip in first ch-5 sp, ch 1, (sc, ch 5, sc) in same ch-5 sp, (sc, ch 5, sc) in remaining 7 ch-5 sps; join with slip st in first sc—16 sc and 8 ch-5 sps.

Round 4: Slip st in first ch-5 sp, ch 6 (counts as first dc, ch 3 here and throughout), dc in same ch-5 sp (corner made), [ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-5 sp (corner made)] 3 times, ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 5; join with slip st in 3rd ch of beginning ch—8 dc, 4 sc, 4 ch-5 sps, and 4 corner ch-3 sps. Fasten off.

NEXT MOTIF (make and join 28)

Chain 4; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Rounds 1–3:Work Rounds 1–3 of first motif.

Determine placement of motif. The motifs should be worked and joined into a rectangle, 2 motifs wide and 14 motifs long.

Continue making and joining motifs, as established, into a strip 2 motifs across and 14 motifs long.

Update:

I have tried substituting all the ch 5's for ch 2's and the ch 3's with ch 1's and it just dont look right!! ( UGH!!! aggravated )

Update 2:

Thanks Good, I did join yahoo groups for crochet!!! they are very helpful... thanks :)

I can probably help you but are you willing to wait a day or so for me to work on it? E-mail me and let me know.

    EDIT

Your joining two motifs. What you do is when you are at a corner chain on crochet one in the same space on the other motif and then chain one and chain into the next stitch of the motif your working on. {ch 1 up stitch 1 in 1st motif ch1 down to second motif that is 3 chain join.} That will also be done at the other end.

On the middle of all of this between the two ends you will chain two and chain one in the corresponding stitch chain two and then stitch one in the motif your working on and keep repeating this until you get to to end /this is the 5 2-1-2=5

This is how you join motifs. If the explanation is not enough let me know and I'lll try again.

I hear your irritation! I just started loom knitting and some patterns are a challenge. I how found a LOT of help in joining some of the Yahoo groups. If you are not a member of a crochet/knitting group I suggest you check out Yahoo groups and do a search for crochet (I search and there are a LOT of them). I think they are very helpful. Good luck.
