I would like to know how much this document is worth. It is a check written by the Confederacy to my family. ?

This paper is signed by Jefferson Davis(confederacy president) and is made out to my great-great-great grandfather for $3500. Could this document be redemed for money for the US government? I don't think that it could be though. How much would a mesuem or collctor pay for this? Please give accurate information and a description. I am not looking to sell this document anyway, just my curiousity. Thanks.

If it is a personal signature by Davis, and can be authenticated, you are sitting on a piece of history. You need to deal with the experts on this, not with us humble (and often stupid) Yamsters.

A search like http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGklu6TjNJsh... might be of value, but I would hit your local .edu sites first.

And be careful with it. It's a viable genealogical document....

The fact that it is a unique document would make it worth more. Also if it is signed by President Davis it would possibly increase the value of the document. You should go to a Civil War relics collector and have it appraised.
