Booth-rent stylists and owners?

Im working at a booth-rent salon, and I was wondering.... If a stylist was to take a leave for about 4-6 weeks due to having a baby, would she still have to pay her booth-rent for that time? The owner of the salon I work at has no idea, so we would like to know what the norm is for this. Thank you

Well, I would say yes, you do. If you don't pay rent for your booth, then the owner is free to rent it to someone else on a permanent basis. Then you'll have no place to work when you come back - if you come back.

If you're booth renting, you're self employed. There's no FMLA rules that apply to you (that would be Family Medical Leave Act), which requires employers to hold a job for someone in the event they go on maternity leave or any other kind of medical leave.
