Was Peter pre ordained to be leader or?
Was it at the moment he professed faith in Christ?
After professing, Christ said My Father revealed to YOU ..... So I now say to YOU: YOU are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church.
And the Gates of hell can never overpower it. I will give YOU the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
And who now holds the keys since Hell has not overpowered it?
Origin, I respect your opinion, but Peter was a man and all men are fallible, only God is infallible, to say Peter made a mistake is to say Christ made a mistake in choosing him. Is i Not?
James was Bishop of Jerusalem, But Peter was the one made head of the Church which was to become Universal as God is universal.
REV with respect your not baseing your opinion on the bible,as Pal needed the ok from Peter and the elders,Didn't Paul say I do the things I hate? A small indicator that he was a sinner NO?

He was ordained before the others, the pope as leader of the kingdom of god/heaven on earth -- the catholic hciurch now holds the keys to the kingdom on earth. the father holds the keys to the kingdom in heaven.
The doctrine of peterian primacy is well documented. while there is no subsatianition for the protestant view you profess.it is not unlike intre[rting John 60:6 as symbolic, even though those who could not acccpte it walked away shaking their heads.
Besides we wrote both, I thinkk we cahtolics know what they mean.

Peter was a recipient of special revelations:
Mt. 16:16-17; "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Acts 10:9-101 "What God had cleansed, you must not call common."
Peter was a recipient of special prophecies:
Mark 13:1-3, "Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down.'
Mk. 14:27-31; "Truly. I say to you, this very night, before the **** crows twice, you will deny me three times."
Jn. 21:18-191 "Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go."
Jesus asks, Peter answers:
Mt. 16:15-16, Jesus asks the twelve a question that Peter answers:
"But who do you say the I am?" Simon Peter (Simon the ROCK) replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
John 6:67-68, Jesus asks a question of the 12 Apostles; Peter answered.
"Jesus said to the twelve, "Will you also go away?" Simon Peter (Simon the Rock) answered him..." "Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life..."

Nice try but that scripture does not mean what you are trying to translate. You are explaining a parabolic scripture using literal thought.
The "Keys" are not literal keys. The only keys in the New Testament were the keys that Jesus took from satan "Life and Death". Jesus rebuked Peter in the next set of scriptures and called him satan. Was Peter literally "satan?' No. Peter then backslid and denied Christ 3 times and was told by Christ; "when you recover" feed my sheep. Not be the Pope. As far as the Church itself is concerned Paul (Saul) built many more Churches and was much more powerful in the movement of the early Church than Peter. Peter still struggled with having a spiritual equality with the Gentiles so much that Paul Rebuked him and left fellowship with Peter. I will repeat myself in saying that Peter was a married man. Why would a married pope make a decree that the next pope could not be married? Exactly.

Peter was given the keys of the kingdom in that he was allowed to be the first to preach the gospel to the Jews and the first to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. He was not a pope.
If you look at the below passage in Luke the meaning becomes clear.
Luk 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
The reason he was given that privelege to preach the first gospel message to each group is that he was the first to realize that Jesus is God in flesh (the Son of the Living God.)
Read Acts chapter 2 to see him preach the first gospel message to the Jews and Acts chapter 10 to see the first gospel message to the Gentiles.

He was described by Paul as a "Pillar" in the church in Jerusalem, along with James and John.
Early church records that James, Jesus' brother, was actually the leader in the first church though.
And the rock that the church is built on is the confession that Peter made, that Jesus is the Christ. Not upon Peter the person, because that would really be sucky, since Peter was so far off on the Gospel that Paul had to correct him publically in Galatians.

Peter was not the leader but the Apostle to the circumcision :
Galatians 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
Galatians 2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
What else would, Feed my lambs, Feed my sheep, Feed my sheep, In John 21 mean? Christ is commissioning him as Apostle to the Jews, His brethren according to the flesh. The lost sheep of the house of Israel.
If your Pope claims succession from Peter he has strayed a very long way from his commission!!!
James was the leader.
Acts 12:17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
Acts 15:13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
You Roman Catholics are so blinded by your false religion that you cannot see the plain meaning of the Bible, which, incidentally your Church banned for many hundreds of years and burnt those seeking to live by it.
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
Do you also claim allegiance to such Antichristian savagery through your Papal succession?
No wonder the Roman Catholic Church banned the Bible for it reveals their many deceptions.
Well did the Apostle John say, They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
Those that do not listen to the Apostles are of the spirit of error and of this world and not of God. That is the Apostles word to us.
The Roman Catholic Church is foremost in denying the authority of the Apostles whose authority cannot be passed on since they were hand picked eyewitnesses and especially commissioned by Christ for this purpose, and all who are to believe can only believe on their word. How absurd that eyewitness testimony can be passed on!!!
What fraudulent usurpation to claim Apostolic Authority and thereby deny the authority of the Apostles themselves. That the Apostles are no longer on this earth means that their authority can only come to us through their word preserved in the Bible. Again, the very Bible which the Roman Catholic Church so wickedly banned and claims their own tradition as superior.
What need is there of tradition when we have the very word of Christ and His Apostles and indeed the very Spirit of God Who shall teach us all things, and bring all things to our remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you and when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth? All we need is the Bible and the Holy Spirit.
So, the Roman Catholic Church blasphemously presumes to occupy the role and work of the Holy Spirit of God?
Strong words you may think, but strong words are suitable for such outrageous blasphemies.
The Bible is the only authority as "your" Peter himself roundly testifies : We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
By the way you write, "Peter was the one made head of the Church ." What an amazing confession!!! Very revealing.
Christ is the Head of the Church not your Popes.

Most probably because he was also a citizen of Rome and as such untouchable. The Romans would have killed anyone else (non Roman) doing the same thing.

I think he earned it. He is a prefect impression of all of us struggling with misguided mercy, but he had the big heart and undying faith going for him.
