Give me one good reason why...?
I cant can cake. Like preserve it in a jar. I don't want to do it, but I was having a discussion about it and I can't think of any good reason it can't be done.
Of course it's weird, that's why we were discussing it!

It could be done, You would have to use huge amounts of preservatives in the use of can or jar but the air packaged in with it would ruin it's freshness for the most part so packaging with nitrogen would be a must. It is either that or vacuuming all the air out to seal it in a flat poly bag (flexible packaging) but all smushed is not too appetizing. Cake is full of air bubbles when baking and the air is encapsulated in the cakes body and is stuck there this is what causes the cake to deteriorate and go bad. So pack in a vacuum bag fresh cake batter instead of the baked cake and all you have to do is heat in the micro and serve...
Source(s): soft packaging (flexible packaging) is prefered for it takes up less space in the warehouses where it is stored before being packed, it is easier to pack or fill, it has less breakage during the handling, filling, packing and transportation stages, it's recycle ability and should it get into land fill, it takes up much less space. You can do that! There are companies that sell bread in a jar so I assume you could do cake in a jar.

This leads us to the next question, why is soft packaging preferred to the hard for cake?
