World of Warcaft - How can I switch from European to US servers ?

My American online friends persuaded me to start playing WoW, however I didn't realize until after I'd installed the European version of the game that I could only play on European servers. I've heard that there is a way however for Europeans to play on US servers. Question is, how ?

Will I be able to play on US servers without having to purchase the US version of the game ? I also have the TBC expansion (Euro), will I still be able to use that if I switch ?

Informed and up-to-date answers only please. I've been looking into this topic and found a lot of conflicting information. I just need the info from someone who knows for sure, preferably from a European player who's already made the switch to a US server.

Currently the only countries supported for play on the North American Servers are the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. European players are able to experience World of Warcraft gameplay on their own set of servers.
