Euthanizing a horse and contacting AQHA?
A few months ago, I had to euthanize my "first" horse due to an extensive injury to her leg. Do I need to report this death to the AQHA as she was registered?

YES, you do! You need to send the papers back to AQHA and if you want them back request so from AQHA and they will stamp them "Horse Reported Dead" and send them back to you.

For the record books, I believe you are supposed to send in the papers or at least contact them and let them know the horse is now deceased.

Make sure they will give it back to you, the arabian registry didn't used to, that is why my mother never told them about her mares death. Maybe it has changed in the last 20 yrs.
If they will give it back, you can sure have them mark the horse as deceased.

You can send her certificate of registration into them and they will mark it deceased. Make sure to tell them you want it back.
