Removing Mold on the wall?

So I've noticed there's like, this gross dark mold behind the toilet, and I don't think it's from the wall like rotting, I'm actually pretty positive it's just from the steam from the shower being trapped in there (we try to keep the bathroom door closed--pets in the bathroom are no fun) and the ventilation fan in there doesn't really work that well. So anyway, I was just wondering what's the best way to remove the mold from behind the toilet? Because I'd like to get in there and start painting soon, and I obviously can't do that over the mold. lol

William d is right: Bleach diluted in water takes your mold off easily. Wear rubber gloves! But much more important is that you keep the wall dry. You must keep your bathroom door open. You must keep your bathroom well ventilated, otherwise you will never get rid off your mold. You can wash with bleach as much as you like, mold will return. If you get and keep the moisture out of your bathroom the mold will disappear. Moldspores are ubiquitous. they are everywhere. But they need moisture to grow and become visible mold. And anyhow, before you start painting you have to get the walls dry, otherwise your paint will peel. And you are right, your paint will not stick on mold.

If the room is really warm and the water in the toilet is really cold, the toilet will develop condensation around the outside, especially during showers, etc. Chlorine bleach is about the best thing for mold all around. I keep a container of bleach wipes in a basket right on the tank, and I give that area a swipe a couple of times a week, they're handy if the person before you was kinda messy too. Also a squirt bottle with diluted bleach solution will keep it down if you give it a squirt now and again. Change out that plastic shower curtain liner about every 3 mos, it's a mold fest usually after that long. Mold is bad, I'm deathly allergic to it.

a spray bottle with bleach in it will kill the mold. you will have to use a primer to repaint the area though like kilz. I doubt the mold is from shower steam, you should have someone else look at the area. there may be a leak in the wall behind the toilet

The best thing I have found ro remove mold and mildew is something that believe it or not you can buy at the dollar store. It's called mean green mildew stain remover. It has bleach in it and I clean my whole bathroom with it. It's only like 2 dollars and it works great. Got the mildew out of our bathroom and keeps everything clean and fresh

Ugh... no longer bleach! Many environmental agencies now advise against using bleach because of the fact it ameliorations the ph point of the mildew inflicting it to advance decrease back. once you combine it with water what you're doing is giving the mildew extra foodstuff (water) and it maintains to stay and advance. All bleach does is take away the stain of mildew so it feels love it particularly is long previous... whether that is not. attempt general important different and young babies detergent and somewhat of water. sparkling making use of a around action and wipe dry at present. depart it for some hours and are available decrease back to it. in case you nonetheless see mildew or smell mildew than redo. desire this helps.

Actually, do not use bleach to kill mold. It doesn't do the job. It will just discolor the mold (much like bleach on your clothes).

Use tea tree oil and/or grapefruit seed extract mixed with water. They are both broad range fungicides and will kill the mold.

Bleach diluted with water is the best way to take it away. I just usually get a wet old towel and put a little bleach on it and wipe the area......it should go away until the steam makes it appear again!
