Protestant And Catholics -- did we somehow miss a key word in this verse?
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
It's a tiny word, but it could make such a big difference if we put it into practice around here.
So what word do we tend to miss and/or ignore in that verse? :)

I'd go with "us".
I say "us" because we need to stop bickering over who has dibs on Jesus. He came to us when we were powerless and needing Him; and how do some of us repay that grace and love? Through hating the other people to whom He came.
That, my brothers and sisters in Christ, shames us.

I definitely haven't been all that peaceful lately, but I can tell you something, I have more Christmas Spirit this year then ever before! I am definitely more irritable and I have received emails calling me out on this since the beginning of the week. All I can say is I'm sorry, I am a little mean right now, I think it is the hormones but who knows, there is just so much going on. I think you are right though, if we actually acknowledged Christ is Peace we would treat others as they should be treated and as we want to be treated. So for my bad attitude lately I am sorry. I am just so worn out.
Love, God Bless, and Merry Christmas,
Kate.

Isaiah -- that's my answer. When we discern that, we may get lucky and stumble into the original words of The Sermon on the Mount. "Blessed" in the Sermon on the Mount meant "set aside for Heaven". (The meaning of that word was changed many moons ago, but the Message and theme has never changed.)

us
We are all in this together, why are we at each others throats all the time?
A lot of other words also are ignored.

this is Isaiah 9:5-6; For a Child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor. God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, From David's throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains By judgment and justice, both now and forever.

His Name, meaning His authority, perhaps? I notice that it transcends time and eternity.

Peace and Us. ALL of us.
Do you know what people are the most afraid of? What they don't understand. And when we don't understand we turn to our assumptions.
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Ephesians 4:6

Great question and I agree, sadly some of Satan's minions 'Everybody but their interpretation of Christianity are going to hell bandwagon' like Chris do not!.
Tebone that is so true.
Chris aren't you going to be surprised, when you see all those Catholics and some of them 'false Protestants' according to you are going to hell, are in heaven.

we tend not to accept those parts of the verse we are not comfortable with. Maybe the government shall be upon His shoulders.

That would be peace. If we bring peace among ourselves we can bring peace to the world
