I want to make my grandparents a Christmas gift using family photos. Any ideas?

Some of the pictures are candid, but they're good shots of people just laughing or something else, and others are posed, but they're all nice. I've thought of making a calendar or maybe just getting some throw pillows made with my kids' faces on them, but I just don't know. Does anyone have any ideas? I chose about 20 pictures that are good quality and show various family members.

I bought at "Big Lots" these really cute serving trays with glass on top and cutouts for four 4x6 pictures. I think they only cost about $5.00.

I did decorative photo plates for family members a few years ago and they loved them. With that many photos, you could do a larger tray or serving platter (for cookies or something that doesn't really have to be washed well, just rinsed). Get a clear glass plate, tray or platter. Buy decoupage stuff at a craft store or Walmart. Get the photo's copied on plain paper and cut out around them however you want. Use the decoupage stuff to "glue" them to the backside of the plate/tray/platter . Let dry. Do one or two more coats (smoothly) of the decoupage glue to seal the photos. Let dry. Then use acrylic paint (your choice of color) and paint over the back with several coats, drying between coats. When done, apply a couple of coats of clear spray paint over the paint to seal it. You can do some very creative things with these. You can add other flat things (clip art, etc.) in between the photos or you can sponge paint more than one color for the painted "background". These are fun to do and are decorative. I love doing homemade things - I think they are more appreciated by the recipient. Hope you find something fun to do for them!

Go to Walgreens or your local photo place and have them put the pictures on a disk (or scan them and put them on your computer). Then get make and order a photobook. These are not scrapbooks. These are actually hard cover books, like a childrens book, high gloss pages. You get to choose the color of the cover, you can put a picture on the cover and a picture on the back if you want or you can have the whole cover be a picture and you can add text in different fonts, sizesd and colors on the cover and on all the pages. You get to pick the backgrounds of all the pages, like if one picture is of them at christmas the background can be christmas themed, and you get to pick how many pics on a page and who you want them spread out and add text if you want. My daughter made one of these for her boyfriend. It was so beautiful. This is something you can leave on the coffee table for them to see every day. You can take pictures of their wedding certificate, them holding hands and their rings showing, pictures of their house or favorites places. You can have grandkids draw pictures and take pictures of that, etc. http://www.snapfish.com/storenewphotobooks

Or a digital photo frame, again get the pictures put on a disk or scan them to your computer. Then you put them on this digital photo frame. My son bought me one. It sits on my end table and family pics change every few seconds. I love it!

  • Do a small scrap book with the pics you chose or a big collage. They have all sorts of scrapbooking stuff at Walmart, or if you live near an A.C. Moore or Michaels they're even better.

I think you should have pictures of you and your family and on a picture frame.
