Do You Think That The NFL Should Change The Playoff Format?

Think about this: the Cardinals can win the NFC West at 7-9 as long as the 49ers lose one more game and make the playoffs.

But it is also possible the Cowboys can go 10-6 and miss the playoffs because the Giants have just about wrapped up the division.

Is this fair? The teams with the best six records should qualify. Never mind automatically sending the four division winners in.

Update:

I am not being sour about my team's failure. I just don't think a 7-9 team (should this even happen) make the playoffs over a 10-6 team. This is almost as unfair as the BCS.

Update 2:

Yared, you bring up a great point. I never thought about that. You are right, this would diminish the importance of winning the division.

I have thought about just taking the top six teams from each conference, it would definitely be more fair. Look at the broncos. One more win and they will have the division because everyone else is 4-8 or worse. With their atrocious defense they do not deserve a playoff spot but they will be in.

But converting to that system would complicate things a great deal. The divisions would mean nothing. It would be like having 6 wild cards. The point of the division crown is to be better than your immediate competitors, the teams you play twice a year. The system will not always work (like this year) but it is designed to work. The divisions should each produce a worthy champion. It just doesnt happen that way every year.

Oh and if its any consolation, the broncos will probably finish 8-8 and run into an indianapolis buzzsaw in the first round of the playoffs. They will get absolutley wrecked.

The Top 2 Teams In A Division Go To The Playoffs

The Under .500 Teams Play In A "Losers Bracket"

The Over .500 Teams Play in A "Winners Bracket"

The Winner of the Winner Plays Winner of Losers in the Super Bowl or Conference Championship

It's The Best Alternative To What We Have or BCS

Even if the Cards go 7-9 and the Cowboys go 10-6, the fact that the Cardinals did beat the Cowboys this year kinda evens things up...

No they should leave it as is. I was in favor of extending the wildcard to 5 or 6 teams but I am against it now.

This has happened plenty of times through out the history of football. You are only complaining now cause your team dropped the ball in there division. Sour grapes man. Why only complain when it is your team that can benefit

yeah man its not fair, but all we have to do is just win the next 4 games i think if we atleast win 3 we will be fine.

No, that'd be idiotic. If you do away with division champs then why not do away with divisions completely? Then we can completely o away with any tradition at all. Say goodbye to rivalry games.

I like the way it is now. That is why every game counts. Yes it is fair.

I'm on your side with this one. Do you remember that we talked about this at the beginning of the season? I'm sure it will never happen, though.
