How many days before a court date does a subpoena usually arrive?
I am in school in a different state than I live in. I planned to go home at a certain time after my finals ended this semester, but my car was hit and I may be subpoenaed to testify against the driver of the car that hit mine (mine was parked). However, the court date - whether I have to be there or not - is a week after I had planned to leave the state. I can't plan my new travel dates until after I find out whether I need to be in court or not. So, when can I expect to be subpoenaed - or know that I haven't been?

Depends on your state. Ours are required to be served no less than 24 hours before the court appearance and once you are served, you are served for all appearances.
I would contact the the prosecutor and let them know that you might be out of the area and unavailable for trial and they can try to get a continuance. Help the prosecutor help you by keeping them informed.
Good luck with that
