Are most Hifonics amps power hungry?

If I run a Hifonics BXI2608 @ 1 ohm do you think a high output alternator will be enough, or would it be WAY smarter to get an extra battery or at least upgrade my battery under the hood. I want answers from people who know what they are talking about here please. Best answer = :-)

Honestly, I think it depends on what subs your running and how much wattage your planning to push them. As you may or may not know, Hifonics are overrated. Its rated 2600 at 1ohm, but I assure you it does not push that. probably more like 2300, which is still a lot of power. H/O, big 3 wire upgrade, and Optima Yellow Top battery in the trunk would definitely be your best bet. No dimming, no voltage drops, you would be slamming. But if your looking for the cheapest way to use this amp, asuming your using 2 subs that are rated 1000rms each, total of 2000rms at a 1ohm load, big 3 upgrade [which is upgrading the 3 wires connecting to your alt to 1/0 gauge wire] and extra battery in trunk. You should do pretty well. But I do highly recommend getting H/O alt and do a big 3 upgrade. That's the best choice. If you wanna be sure and money isn't an factor, H/O+Big 3+Battery in trunk, you will for sure have nothing to worry about.

No most Hifonics amps are not power hungry. Now with the info that you have provided the best possible solution for you would actually be both a high output alt and a upgraded battery. The reason being is that it takes power to make power. Also that amp could possibly pull upwards of 260 amps at full tilt. If your car requires 90 amps and you have a 120 amp alt the amp will pull power away from the car and will cause headlight dimming, and things of the sort. Also have you upgraded the power wiring under the hood of your car to help with the additional load caused by the amp? The reason i ask is that is the most overlooked thing when people start adding stereo equipment. Most car audio shops call that doing the BIG 3. Also I would like to point out that even though you have your amp wired @ 1 ohm does not mean that is what it will play at. As the subs move to play the different notes the Impedance changes causing the amp to see different ohm loads, which is called impedance rise. which has an effect on the amp. If you are using a ported enclosure then when you try and play below tuning of the box the amp will end up putting out a clipped signal and pull more power from the electrical system. So as long as you stay above the tuning frequency of the box you will be fine, play below it and you could end up with blown subs.

the hifonics brutus amps are sturdy amplifiers for the money. they are cea-2006 rated so which you recognize that they make rated means. great amplifiers basically approximately consistently get mixed comments on line. many are offered by skill of folk who haven't any thought of the present standards of them. they conflict to run 2000+ watts rms off of a inventory alternator with a 6 gauge means cord from walmart. then whinge while the amplifier shuts off.

a high output alt will be more than enough... it will provide the complete power to the system.
