Router time always resets to 2002.?

I've been having problems connecting to my wireless network, usually unplugging/replugging the power to the router fixes it. I notice that the time in my router configuration software returns to a date in 2002 everytime the router resets like this. Could this be causing the connection problems and if so how can I fix it?

Router is a D-Link WBR-1310

Firmware is 1.04, harware version A1

Update:

I am not resetting (pressing reset button), I am unplugging the power for 2-3 seconds.

probably when it was first produced or used for the first time it was 2002. When you restart it, it probably just goes back to its Original factory settings.
