British citizens have many fewer rights vis-a-vis their government and legal system. When the British government deems it desirable, as was the case in Northern Ireland, a suspect can be held without trial or charges being filed for an indefinite period of time.

Lately, Britain has become one of the most puritanical nations in Europe as far as restricting its citizens freedom to enjoy themselves. They have the worst smoking ban and are now discussing adopting more American-style (i.e. stupid) alcohol policies, directed mostly at the youth.

As in most countries, there is police brutality.

Yes, the rights of the British people themselves.

It seems that the Government is far too worried that newcomers will be offended by the British culture and values.

Ironically, the newcomers arrive because they want a better life: freedom and the ability to attain prosperity....the possibilities of which exist BECAUSE of British culture and values.

Source(s): No, I'm not BNP nor am I opposed to multiculturalism. However, I think that while both residents and immigrants would need to make adjustments, the burden of the greater adjustment should fall on those who choose to come. An American's view...outside looking in.
