Amniocentesis anyone?
I have tested abnormal on the Quad test that determines your likeliness of having a baby with down syndrome. They gave me a 1 in 90 chance right now, but want to do an ultrasound to see if they see anything else. If so, they will offer me amniocentesis.
I don't think I want to do this. I know there are risks involved (even if it's small) and feel like it wouldn't be worth it since I would keep and love the baby regardless.
Anyone had amniocentesis and if so, what kind of experience was it? Did you have problems in your pregnancy afterward?

There are risks involved and you want to ask yourself, will it make a difference? do I want to know or just try and have a happy healthy baby.
I know it is hard which is why I have opted out of all of that prenatal testing if something is wrong I will know after the birth because either way I would not get rid of it.
You can always do the ultrasound and go from there, if they see nothing then you can opt out of the amnio and if they think they find something you can talk with your partner and your doctor and find what is best for you.
Just remember the quads test is wrong a lot so do not stress to much!
Good Luck in whatever you decide.

I had Amnio done with my second one-I didnt have any problems with my pregnancy afterwards it's just hard getting poked and all that.
Im glad you choose to keep the baby regardless, but if you're having a child with disabilities it'd be better to know now, so you know what to expect.
Knowing or doing the tests doesnt mean that you will love your baby les, but that you'll be fully prepared for the challenge of parenting a child with disabilities.
What are the weaknesses of a child with this disability ie. muscle weakness etc.. What can you do to help your baby?
Therapies? Getting in touch with other moms with children with the same disability might help out too, being part of an organization that caters to children with special needs it'd be beneficial too.
I think it'd be good for you to know for sure what's going on with your baby.

I had amnio with both kids. No problems. Both kids fine too. Luckily I never had to tussle with any ethical problems. The procedure is a bit uncomfortable but bearable. Scary though, but it's mostly in your mind.

I personally did not have one done but my friend did. And it was hard on her, the baby is fine nothing wrong with him.
But from your story I can see that it will make no difference to you either way so why do it.
