Copper will NOT react with dilute sulphuric acid (being lower than hydrogen in the 'reactivity series'), although any copper oxide on the surface will react to form copper sulphate (+ water)...making the copper look cleaner.

Copper will react when warmed with concentrated sulphuric acid - forming copper sulphate, sulphur dioxide and water.
