Cms website manageability?
I'm building my first cms website for a client and just wanted to find out the standard for cms website manageability. As it is, I have created custom fields where all of the website content is stored. This is able to be modified obviously. However other than modifying the content already present on the design, adding and deleting more categories and data would be difficult. Ie I have a services page where services are listed with their price. Is it just part of the cms environment that the client wouldn't be able to go in and add an extra service without first hard coding the HTML file and adding an extra div and custom field key? Also, with the design as every service has its own div, which is styled to have a border, deleting a service withouth changing the HTML also isn't possible as the div border remains visible. Is this viable cms design?
2 AnswersSearch Engine Optimisation9 years agoWhat size image for website background?
I am designing a website which features full screen background images. When I download these photos from a stock website should I go with:
• the medium size (847 x 565 px, 29.9 cm x 19.9 cm (72dpi)) or
• the large size (2508 x 1672 px, 21.2 cm x 14.1 cm (300dpi))
I will be using a web plugin which will resize the photo to fit any browser. Will the medium size become too low quality for larger screen sizes?
2 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoLondon Townhouses - layout?
I'm just wondering about the setup of the old london townhouses. Given they are multi-level, are they split up into separate residences? If so, are they completely separate, for complete privacy? Or is it just the open staircase that would separate different boarders?
Thanks.
2 AnswersLondon9 years agosupersized jquery help please?
I want to add a fading full size background slideshow to my webpage using the supersized jquery. I haven't had much experience with js and can't figure out how to readjust the supersized slideshow coding (which also features thumbnails at the bottom and navigation arrows).
I basically want to achieve the same thing as at the website http://www.februe.de/
I would be very happy if someone could help!
Thanks.
1 AnswerProgramming & Design9 years agoMinimum size container which stretches depending on browser?
I am designing a website, which I originally wanted to have a nav bar fixed to the left side of the page, and the content panel fixed to the right hand side with lots of empty space, particularly in the centre, so that the full size background image shows through. But I have decided that for accessibility on mobiles etc...I don't think the fixed position is going to work...
I am fairly new to this sort of thing...but are there any options which allow me to have the same sort of effect, but when the browser is shrunk down to a certain size the browser automatically adds a scroll bar so that the content doesn't cover over the nav?
Or is my only option to fix everything within a 960px or so width and so not have as much display of the background image?
2 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoSydney activity ideas?
I need some suggestions of fun and unique things to do in the sydney area for a group of around 20-30 people, which isn't going to cost too much money (around $50 max). The ages would range from around 16 to into the 30's. I have organised archery at olympic park before, and that was great. Some fun where you don't have to take yourself too seriously. I have thought about some team-building style activities, but most of the ones I have looked at are a little pricey.
If anyone has ideas, or knows of any hidden gems, I would greatly appreciate it!

Tossing up between the Samsung BD-D5100XY bluray player or the Soniq B100 bluray player.
Any experiences on which is better? I like the multi region capabilities of the the Soniq, but unsure whether the overall quality will be lower than the samsung..
3 AnswersHome Theatre10 years agofixed and scrolling elements on a webpage?
I'm designing a webpage, where I want everything fixed except one block of text.
basically the same idea as a one page website with a text box. but rather than having an annoying little text box with its own scroll bar, i want the browser's scroll bar to control the text.
is this possible?
one of the problems is that i need the text to cut off at the top of its div as you scroll, rather than at the top of the browser window, because otherwise it would cover over an image.
any help would be great!
thanks!
1 AnswerProgramming & Design10 years agoFonts on mac not grouped together?
I've downloaded some fonts off Dafont.com and one of them in particular has about 20 different variations. Only problem is that in programs such as photoshop, illustrator, indesign etc these fonts arent linked to be "variations" of one typeface, but show up separately. Is there any way of fixing this?
3 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agowebsite background techniques?
I am fairly new to website design and I'm just trying to figure out the different ways of filling the page with the background...bear with me..i have a few questions!
1. I know that there is a tiling method, either horizontally or vertically to fill the background and this method is good to use to save with download times etc.
But with website like these, would they have a whole image as their background? http://www.crafton.pl/ http://dansweetdesign.com/
With a full page background what dimensions would you have to use when creating them?
Is it better sticking to backgrounds you can tile so they aren't so download hungry?
2. Also, how do you (what dimensions do you use etc) allow for variable heights, so that a client can add extra text into the body of the site, so that the design and background stretches to accomodate? eg. with this website how can you keep the footer stuck down the bottom no matte the size of the body?

thankyou so much in advance!

I have a macbook pro OS X 10.6 and am trying to connect it to a printer connected to my windows xp computer. It is a Brother HL-2040.
On my mac I have downloaded gutenprint which has a driver for this printer model and have followed the instuctions on how to connect the printer up.
Under the IP tab i put this info in:

Address- just IP address number
Queue- LPT1 (which i got by going to the printer on my xp and checking the printer port which was checked)
I then did print using: and i chose the brother HL 2040 cups driver through the gutenprint driver.
When i try and print i get the status: Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...

3 AnswersPrinters1 decade agoIs it possible to paint over brass mirrored sliding doors?
I have mirrored sliding doors in my room (which I hate but I'm stuck with) and am planning on re-painting the room..
The problem is that the edges and tracks etc. are brass, rather than the traditional white..
Is there any way at all of painting over this brass to white or another colour to go with the new colours of the room?
Or is this impossible?
4 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoText align issues in Dreamweaver?
I've made a website and positioned the footer at the bottom of the page, with a right alignment of text.
This shows up fine in Dreamweaver, but when I open the page up in a browser, the right align doesn't work, but it aligns to the left.
What is going on??
