Fonts on mac not grouped together?
I've downloaded some fonts off Dafont.com and one of them in particular has about 20 different variations. Only problem is that in programs such as photoshop, illustrator, indesign etc these fonts arent linked to be "variations" of one typeface, but show up separately. Is there any way of fixing this?
It is not a problem with the programs, but with how the fonts have been designed, i assume. I don't really think there is an easy way to change it, but was just hopeful.
For example, in adobe programs if you want to use Helvetica, you go to fonts, click on helvetica, and then are able to choose the font style from a second list: either regular, bold, semi-bold, condensed...or any combination of the above.
In this case the font-family hasn't been correctly set up, so when i click on 'font' i see:

trajan pro
trebuchet MS
verdana
vintage
violation
walkway black
wakway black revoblique
walkway bold
walkway bold revoblique
walkway condensed

Why don't you try this:
Tell us the name of the font. Then we can download it, install it, and see exactly what you mean.
Also, tell us what "show up" means. Are you saying their names do not begin with the same word? You cannot easily change the name of a font's "Full name" and that is what is used for alphabetizing in all apps. You said "in programs such as photoshop, illustrator, indesign etc"... but we don't know what etc includes. Are these name issues the same in TextEdit? If so, it is simply a goof by the designer of the font. You can use a font design app to rebuild the font with the correct name, but it is not likely to be worth it. One such tool is FontForge, free, but designed to run in Python by way of the X11 interface rather than OS X.
