Connect mac computer up to windows network printer?
I have a macbook pro OS X 10.6 and am trying to connect it to a printer connected to my windows xp computer. It is a Brother HL-2040.
On my mac I have downloaded gutenprint which has a driver for this printer model and have followed the instuctions on how to connect the printer up.
Under the IP tab i put this info in:
Protocol- LPD
Address- just IP address number
Queue- LPT1 (which i got by going to the printer on my xp and checking the printer port which was checked)
I then did print using: and i chose the brother HL 2040 cups driver through the gutenprint driver.
When i try and print i get the status: Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...
Help please??

just get a cisco router and get the pro version of network magic . you need the mac and the windows version and install it in both pc and laptop. open the onein the pc and press share a printer

Hey what you will want to do is plug the printer into your mac and run software updates to insure it has all the correct drivers and software directly on the mac first and that it is able to print. From there you will plug back in the way it was to your network and try to follow these steps there is not 3rd party software needed

If you're using a printer with a parallel cable (probably not) then you would want a printer server. If you're utilising a USB connected printer, you must be equipped to plug the printer and each computers into a USB hub and print from both pc.
