USB 2.0 Memory Stick Transfer Speed Help?

I have a USB 2.0 memory stick and USB 2.0 slots on my computer. Sometimes when i use my memory stick i get around 10MB/s

Most the time though i get about 2.5MB/s

When i use my Ipod i get 10MB/s pretty much constantly. Does anybody know what could be causing this? Whenever i'm transferring i make sure nothing else is running on my computer.

Any solutions/advice would be much appreciated!

Update:

Everything firmware wise on my PC is now up to date. Still having the same problem. Ipod = 10MB/s

Memory Stick = 2.5 MB/s

Try updating the drivers for your motherboard and/or chipset

The fastest memory transfer speed is supposed to 480mps but that never is the case. It all depends on the filing system. With Vista you can format your USB to ready boost enabled which may speed up the filling system. USB's are normally fat32
