How to upload html file to web space?

Hi all,

I'm trying to build a basic website. The problem is, I don't know a lot about it, am just learning some basic html. I do not have any software, just IE and Windows XP.

Now, whenever I make a basic html file and try to upload it to my web space, Windows won't let me. It just tells me to upload it to msn web space, and that is not what I'm interested in. Windows is aware of the web space, the wizard just doesn't offer it.

I need some help from an actual person. If you need me to download something like a FTP program that is fine, I'm just not going to pay for it. (I know I ask a lot.) I'd like to do it all by myself, I know where I can get pre cooked websites.

Thanks for any help!

Get a (free) online web host. Make an account and do the things needed. Then get the FTP-information provided by your host and grab a FTP-program, a good one is FileZilla (it's free). Log in via Filezilla.

Then drag & drop your files into the queue and click Upload. (or something familiar)

If it is home page, you have to rename it to be INDEX.HTML or HOME.HTML
