How to upload the right files to your web site? ?
Hello,
I'm trying to make a basic web site, but I'm very new to it all. Also I hardly have any supporting software.
I thought I was doing something wrong. Whenever I upload something to my web space, I always see the actual FILE, and not the text In that file. Now I thought it would be better if I used a FTP program, but actually that program is doing the same what I did manually.
Is there something wrong with my files? They're common files with a text extension and ANSI coding.
I still want to do this on my own, but need a little help. If I need more material, links to free software are much appreciated.
Thank you very much.

Web sites are serving HTML (NOT text) by default, so you would want to upload .htm(l) files to your site...
You might want to read about HTML first (http://www.w3schools.com/)
In any directory (by default) you need one file called index.htm(l) - this is the file that will display when you (or any visitor) browses to your directory (http://yoursite/yourDir/)...
You can try Eclipse IDE (free)... Google...
Good luck...
