Did I do the right thing?

A couple of hours ago, an old man with a cane came up to me and asked me to help him cover his pool for the winter, and he said he lived right down the street. He told me to get into his car and he would drive me there since it was cold to walk, and he asked me if my parents were home for the weekend. (I was at a track meet at my school). I said no, and he asked if I would do it, and I said sorry, no. I feel like I did the wrong thing. Feedback?

You did exactly the right thing. You shouldn't give out information about whether your parents are home or not, though. Just because he was old and with a cane doesn't mean he couldn't be a pervert or worse.

Tell your parents about it, too, when they get home.
