Facing a hysterectomy...what can I expect?

I'm having one in January. I have to have to bikini incision...laparascopic is not an option for me. Has anyone here had one? Can you tell me what I can expect to be dealing with? I know I will have a hospital stay of a few days and that I'm looking at 4-6 weeks of not being able to work.

I have given up using short term fixes for a long term problem.

Any advice or suggestions? Thanks.

Look forward to a wonderful life without periods or birth control.

I had to have one due to a cancer scare and erratic and painful periods. I have two wonderful children so having the operation was a no brainer for me.

My operation went very smoothly. I didn't require any pain medication afterwards and I was up showering the next day. The only two drawbacks I've had is a weight increase and a diminished sex drive. Both of these aren't a huge problem and when I consider the hell I was going through before the operation they are small by comparison.

I wish you all the very best of luck. You'll feel like a new woman. Please feel free to email me and let me know how you get on.

Well, you won't have to deal with any more periods at all anymore, but expect some hormonal in-balance. You will be put prescription medicine and it will be painful for a while. I have a couple of friends that had to have that done. They were a mess for a while until the pill kicked in and helped them deal with their hormonal in-balance.
