Feeding Rabbits hay & hay cubes?
Can I feed alfalfa hay free choice to rabbits? I'm currently giving them a small amount in the morning. How quickly can I start giving them more? I don't want them to get sick. I'll be starting grass hay round bales for the horses next month, assuming the rabbits can eat that free choice, do I need to slowly wean them onto it after feeding alfalfa? Also, can I feed horse hay cubes to the rabbits? A 50lbs bag of horse cubes is $10, compared to what I'd pay for rabbit hay cubes.

Alfalfa hay is not for adult rabbits. Only rabbits under 7 months should get alfalfa, due to the calories. Feed timothy, or sometimes brome, orchard or meadow etc. But all hay is unlimited at any age, so keep huge piles available. And dont worry about switching hays or starting off with small amounts. Just increase the amount/change type over like 4 days. Its changing pellets that should be slow(over a 1 month period). Im not sure about the horse hay cubes. But i think regular hay is better for rabbits then cubes. More long thick strands which means more fiber. And since fiber is basically the point to hay, id stick to regular baled hay. Good luck and hope this helps!

Cubed hay is ok to use. Loose hay is of course considered better but cubes can be used. Horse cubes are the same. Cubes are as far as I know only timothy or alfalfa. those are preferred hays to use with chinchillas any how.

Timothy Hay is preferred for rabbits but Alfalfa cubes can be given to rabbits to eat but be careful not to over feed this at it is fattening.
