Was it wrong for me as a practicing Roman Catholic to have voted fo Obama ?
There was the priest in South Carolina who said that he would not give communion to those parishioners in his parish who voted for Obama. I would love to hear your opinions on this topics.
I am not a moron and I do love my country, thank you !!!

Ehhh...forget the crazy old man, who cares what he thinks? The Vatican makes it all up as they go anyway.
I would say it was wrong as an intelligent human being to vote for Obama...but that's as far as I'm going to take it.

Yes. Obama supports abortion, euthanasia, and same-sex marriage. These are issues that are totally imcompatable with Church belief. It is morally wrong for a Catholic to vote for a candidate that supports such policies.

To even vote for a candidate that supports abortion is grounds for automatic excommunication. That's how morally wrong abortion, among other things, is.
A priest CANNOT administer Communion to anyone whom he knows is in a state of mortal sin and/or excommunicated from the Church. A priest who makes this known to his parish, and hopefully follows through with it, is a priest who is doing his job.

Do you, love your country? Then why do you show your support for such morally corrupted institutions life abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, etc, by voting for a candidate who supports these things?

Yes, the Catholic Bishops all over the USA have written many letters to all to vote for pro-life and to defend the human dignity. You can check many of these letters on ZENIT, the Pope also encouraged US citizens to defend human life as well regarding the elections.
The reason being is that Obama is pro-choice and many of his stradegies had abortion in the mix and he also supported Planned Parenthood.
I'm sorry you were not aware of all of these things.
God bless you!
To DAVE W above: please do some research before assuming. Catholic priests not only provide the Sacrament of Reconciliation to all Catholics whenever it is needed or wanted but they themselves too receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) regularly as the Church recommends.
It is cases like this, when some may not know the teachings or practices of the Church that bring bad names to the Catholic Church.

No. You have the right to vote for whoever regardless of your religion, and a priest cannot deny you the Eucharist because of your choice; it's not a sin. Catholics may be pro-life, but neither party will do anything about abortion so your vote doesn't go against any of the beliefs of your religion. Also, Catholics support ALL life, not just children, so it is good that you voted for an anti-war candidate.

It was not wrong for you to vote the way you saw fit. There is a separation of church and state in this country. Everyone is allowed to vote for the person they think will best lead this country.
I recall that a similar thing was done during the last election. The Catholic Church said that it's priests were to refuse communion to any parishioner who supported Kerry because of his pro-choice stance.

if you have a source for this rumor that would be great.
omaba supports abortion which is against the Rcc teachings and Scripture. obama supports gay marriage which is also against the Rcc teachings and Scripture. obama supports laziness and taking form others who work hard to support laziness/sloth.
a person can confess and be absolved of the voting. the priest was not in the voting booth so.... i really don't know where this drivel comes from.....
take care

Did you vote for the man based on his religion or his qualifications to hold office? My Bible does not say anything about not being able to receive the sacraments of the church if you vote for the supposedly wrong person in an election. Those parishioners should take this up with the bishop in that district. This priest is basing his decision on his personal feelings, not the teachings of the church.

A priest has this power. But, Roman Catholics go to confession regularly, and the church considers no human without sin. Catholics confess to many things, even the "seven deadly sins" such as pride glutonny, greed, or lust.
It's supposed to be good to confess.
But, overall, I think it's an intrusion of church into state affairs, politics.
Perhaps the priests themselves should confess and ask forgiveness for trying to control democractic elections??
BTW, heaven is not a democracy, it's the KINGDOM of God. And, unlike Protestant Churches, where ministers are "called" and serve at the pleasure of the Congregation, Catholic Priests, Bishops and Cardinals are in a hierarchy of direct control from the Pope.
Perhaps Catholics should also express to such priests their "guilt" or unfortunate situation of having to live in a democracy and attend a church that operates as a tyrant?
I think the Pope went too far, unless Catholics are asked to confess after every election, as no candidate is perfect, for sure.

Obama has many good characteristics as did John McCain but Obama's views on same sex marriage and abortion contradicts the Church's teachings, as seen in the Bible:
Same Sex Marriage: 1 Corinthians 6:9
Abortion: Romans 1:25-27
If our country was more educated about his stances on these issues and less concerned with the color of his skin he wouldn't have taken office.

No, being a catholic has nothing to do with who you vote for. Its not like Obama is going to destroy the catholic religion. Obama will support every religion and race. Thats just one of the stupid things people say, so don't believe that. You yourself should decide, not some priest.
