Where did that shoe come from?

Can someone please tell me why it is that no matter where you go in the world you will almost always see just one shoe in the middle of the road? Are there a lot of one legged people discarding their footwear or is this phenomenon due to wild animal attacks?

HAHAHA I've done that too, I was crossing the road and my flip-flops broke. I was just like WTF.. and let it be :(

It's part of an international game called one shoe road tag...when you spot one shoe - you're it! You must call other people's notice to it to get out of being it... as soon as some one else mentions one shoe...they are it! This game is played by many different people and involves many single shoes.

(This is a much more intriguing explanation than blandly saying some stupid person lost a shoe, isn't it?)

I don't think I see many shoes lying in the middle of the road...more hanging over the power lines.

I guess I'll be literal instead of joking around. Basically it is a challenge to get your shoe up there - throwing it is tough I guess, so maybe they get the one up there and they don't want to try again. And maybe it's a status symbol to be able to get the shoe up there.

It might come from garbage cans wherein during a storm it washes out those old pairs and had got out o different places.

Ha Ha, and I hear the wild animals are real hospitable too, they really hate to see you leave.

i feel the same way! i've even seen shoes hung on telephone polls? I guess whoever you see half barefoot is the person that put it there.
