good question. the list is huge but these things are key. Get a money belt type thing that you keep attached to you at all times. Make several copies of your passport and credit cards. If you loose your passport, the consulate will give you a copy without delay if you have a copy. If not, you're looking at a tedious process. Carry nothing in your back pocket. Locks on suitcases. i got robbed in Barcelona so I know what I'm talking about. People make their livings from ripping off tourists in cities abroad.
Buy a "lets go" book or "frommers". itll tell u everything step by step.

well definatly warm clothes.. camera.. uh.. good walking shoes.. money .. a bag that can be zipped .. (pick pockets ) and locked .. monchies.. and maybe make the students find 3 things about each place that they think is really cool. like a resturant or a park.. or something this will give them an idea of what to expect .. like a lil bit of research. maybe.

Good walking shoes. Lots of money. A sense of humor. Things that can be thrown away after wearing so there is room for souvenirs. A blow up neck pillow for the plane.

I think you should just take the clothes on your back and go. Who needs to bring their "stuff" with them everywhere they go? There is much more to enjoy if you don't have to worry about anything.
