What is the format of a bank account number in England?
Just the format, not a real number. Why should this make me a thief? Need it in a project.

Here's some information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sort_Codes_of...
And in regards to the accounts themselves, I couldn't find a lot. Perhaps if you use that link above, you might be able to go to different banks' sites and see what each one does. In Australia, it's up to the individual banks, the only restriction is that it isn't to be longer than nine digits. It also varies according to whether it's a cheque account or not. Just to add to your possible overload, it's also possible for someone to have a member number which is not the account number. That is the case with our bank.
Anyway, if no-one else gives you a useful answer, that at least gives you some help in what to look for. Also, try again in a few hours and maybe more people in the UK will be home and online to see your question. The time over there is about 10am on Monday morning.
EDIT:
I found this too:
http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_acc... - it might help.
