What Jesus do Mormons follow?
The Mormon previous President/Prophet Gordon Hinckley stated that the LDS have A DIFFERENT JESUS!
In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints "do not believe in the traditional Christ. No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fulness of Times. (Deseret News, Church News section, Salt Lake City, Utah, week ending June 20, 1998, p. 7)
What Jesus was revealed to the LDS church?
The LDS jesus is 1 of 3 Gods.
I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and THREE GODS. If this is in accordance with the New Testament, lo and behold! WE HAVE THREE GODS anyhow, and they are plural; and who can contradict it? (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Edited by Joseph Fielding Smith, p.370, 1976)
The LDS jesus was conceived when God came to live with Mary as her part-time husband.
Therefore, the Father and Mother of Jesus, according to the flesh, must have been associated together in the capacity OF HUSBAND AND WIFE; hence the Virgin Mary must have, for the time being, THE LAWFUL WIFE OF GOD THE FATHER (The Seer, Mormon Apostle Orson Pratt, pg. 158). ...He had a lawful right to overshadow the Virgin Mary in the capacity of a husband. . .
"Christ was Begotten by an immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers" (Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 1966, pg.547).
Was anyone here begotten without sex?
The LDS jesus was/is the spirit brother of Lucifer.
TWO OF OUR BROTHERS OFFERED HELP. Our oldest brother, Jesus Christ, who was then called Jehovah, said "Here am I, send me".... Satan, who was called Lucifer, also came, saying, "Behold, here am I, send me." ... After hearing both sons speak, Heavenly Father said, "I will send the first." ... Because our Heavenly Father chose Jesus Christ to be our Savior, Satan became angry and rebelled. (Gospel Principles, p. 11, 17, 18)
The LDS jesus is actually the son of Adam.
LDS Church Prophet Brigham Young taught : "Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner! When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world....He is our Father and our God, and THE ONLY GOD WITH WHOM WE HAVE TO DO….” (Journal of Discourses, 1:50-51.)
The LDS jesus has many wives.
When the "Gentiles" stated that polygamy was one of the "relics of barbarism," Brigham Young replied: "Yes, one of the relics of Adam, of Enoch, of Noah, of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob, of Moses, David, Solomon, the Prophets, of JESUS, AND HIS APOSTLES" (vol. 11, p.328).
The LDS jesus atoned for sin in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus Christ atoned for the sins of mankind in the Garden of Gethsemane, not on the cross alone. (Gospel Principles, by the Mormon Church, 1986 and older editions, p. 58.)
No blood was shed in Gethsemane.
The LDS jesus was Jehovah but could not have been according to the LDS rules of achieving Godhood.
The LDS jesus is considered to be the Jehovah of Old, but the LDS church says you have come to earth and get a body and obey your way to Godhood, so really the LDS jesus could not have been Jehovah.
I have to agree with the late President of the Mormon church. The LDS do not follow the same Jesus as Christianity. What do you all think?

NOT the Jesus in the Bible...
How was Jesus born?
According to Mormon theology, Jesus is the literal son of god and his goddess wife. He was born through physical sexual relations (see mormon quotes below ) with Mary. Brigham Young taught that Jesus was not born with any involvement of the Holy Spirit.
According to the Bible, Jesus is not the literal son of god and his goddess wife. He was not born through sexual relations. Mary was a virgin was Jesus was born. There is no such thing as a goddess wife. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20).
Note:
MANY Mormon Leaders taught that the Lord had relations with Mary through a natural action, just as we are begotten.
This "idea" was not just a one time thing...SEE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xg2Z-6qqCU&feature...
Spirit brothers
According to Mormon theology, Jesus is the brother of all spirits born in heaven. He is also the spirit brother of Lucifer.
According to the Bible, Jesus is not the brother of all spirits born in heaven and he is not the spirit brother of Lucifer. Lucifer is an angel created by Jesus (who created all angels). Lucifer rebelled against God. Only those that do the will of the Father are considered spiritual brothers and sisters of Jesus (Mark 3:35). Jesus even told some Jews that their spiritual father was the devil (John 8:44).
Earthly marriage and celestial marriage
According to Mormon theology, Jesus was married and had wives. Thus, in Heaven, Jesus will continue to be married to his wives forever.
According to the Bible, Jesus was not married and did not have wives. Jesus said there is no celestial marriage. "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven" (Matthew 22:30).
The Godhead
In Mormon theology, in the "Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith p. 370", Joseph Smith taught that God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist as 3 gods. The Trinity is three separate gods.
According to the Bible, Jesus is not one of 3 gods in the godhead. The Trinity is 3 persons in one God. Jesus is God. There is only 1 God, but many false gods.
Polygamy
According to Mormon theology, Jesus was a polygamist (Journal of Discourses, Volume 4, page 259).
According to the Bible, Jesus was not married and did not have wives.
Where will Jesus return?
According to Mormon theology, Jesus is expected to return to a future temple in Missouri.
According to the Bible, Jesus will return to the Jerusalem in Israel (Zechariah 14:4).
Quotes:
"We are told in the scriptures that Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God in the flesh....how are children begotten? I answer, just as Jesus was begotten of his Father. The Christian denominations believe that Christ was begotten not of God, but of the spirit that overshadowed his mother. THIS IS NONSENSE. Why will they not believe the Father when He says that Jesus Christ
is His Only Begotten Son? Why will they try to EXPLAIN THIS TRUTH AWAY and make mystery of it?" (as quoted from Joseph F. Smith, 'Box Elder Times,' Sep.
22, 1914).
From Above...
Hum, How are children begotten?? Thats a tough one.
ITs clear as day...http://www.exmormon.org/mormon/mormon385.htm

You've got a few things wrong...
For example, we do not believe God had sex with Mary. You said, "Was anyone here begotten without sex?" Have you read the Bible? It says that Jesus was "begotten" of God (e.g., John 3:16), but that doesn't mean "sex." *rolls eyes*
We do not believe Jesus is the son of Adam...lol.
We do not believe Jesus had many wives...many of us don't even believe he had ONE wife...lol.
As far as believing that Jesus atoned for us in Gethsemane too (we also believe he did on the cross), yes we do believe that. Is that really so evil? I would think believing that he DID atone for our sins is much more important than where it happened. If we actually believed God had sex with Mary, I can understand why that would bother people, but I don't understand why believing Jesus also suffered for our sins in Gethsemane is such a problem for people. It's like arguing how high the cross was...does it matter?
Regarding your analysis of why the Jesus couldn't have been Jehovah according to LDS doctrine, I'm sorry to inform you that you don't understand LDS doctrine, or what the whole "achieving Godhood" thing really means.
It appears that you put a lot of thought into this, which is commendable, especially since you cited your sources (which most people don't do here). Some of your sources aren't reliable and are not official sources of our doctrine. Especially "The Seer", which is a heretical work that was even later denounced but its own author. Gospel Principles is a fairly reliable source, and ironically, the instances when you quoted Gospel Principles is when you actually got it right. Your quote from the teachings of Joseph Smith is accurate too, and supported by the Bible.
The lesson is, if you want to know what Mormons believe, there are reliable and not-reliable sources. Isn't it interesting that you didn't quote our scriptures even ONCE.

This is a ridiculous question.
There's one Jesus Christ. Different groups understand him differently, but that doesn't mean that there were 40 different Jesus's walking around.
You don't agree with Mormon theology..........that probably explains why you're not a Mormons.
And yes, people can be "begotten" without sex. A virgin could get pregnant with artificial insemination or IVF. We don't believe that God and Mary had sex. The Bible says Christ is the "only begotten of the Father". What does that mean to you???
You're quoting a number of things that are simply not LDS doctrine but rather the opinions of certain LDS members, and often misquoted or taken out of context. I don't feel like listing them. We have no doctrine that teaches that Christ was married, let alone if he had multiple wives.
There are too many issues in this post to bother pointing them all out.

Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are the religious worship that Mormon's follow. Their teachings in the Bible are all true as well, but God instructed Joseph Smith to read and translate the Book of Mormon after being guided to it. For some reason, God wanted this book, another account adding onto the Bible, to be introduced during this time. No religions accepted this book to be true, so Joseph Smith was therefore inquired to start the Mormon Church, and his teachings come from the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith was no more an instrument in God's hands. God gave the book to the world, but only few chose to accept it, so the consequence is there. Ultimately, we worship God and Jesus Christ, but Joseph Smith did play a very significant part in the upbringing of the Mormon Church, so he does receive a lot of credit and respect from the Mormon people for bringing this into our lives. However, we do not worship him. We worship Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Your last "question" that was identical to this was reported and deleted - but really - isn't a question implying that you want an answer or to learn something - you have neither.
Giving you the same answer as before, since this is the same "question."
You spread half truths, blantant lies and things taken out of context.
What harm do our beliefs do to you - did a Momon cut you off in traffic and make you spill your Starbucks?
Gotta say - if you spent half the time telling the whole truth as you do digging up and butchering beliefs - you would be a very productive person.

It is good to see you are reading the words of the prophets and agreeing with them. Seek the influence of the Holy Ghost, and it will lead you unto all truth. I sense a great deal of pride, so you will have to work on that. A rich man will get into heaven long before a prideful man will.
You are right in believing that many Christians don't follow the Christ of the New Testament. Most churches believe in the Trinity - a confusing mismash of contradictory statements first established by common vote in 325 AD at the council of Nicea, and then later modified at the council of Athanasius. I am sure this is what Christ had in mind when he told Joseph Smith that "their creeds are an abomination".

The Christ I believe in is:
The Son of God, the Only Begotten
The Savior
The son of Mary
The Redeemer
Prince of Peace
King of Kings
Lord of Lords
Jehovah
Eternal
perfect
My Brother
Who is the Jesus YOU believe in, if mine is different than yours???
You think you know so much about the LDS church, even with all the links you provided... you still know nothing.
Just full of half-truths, misconceptions, and twists on words to suit your own purpose. Sorry, but you will fail.

Ghee... could you be any more verbose with ONE question here? Oh my goodness...
I wasn't aware there was more than one Jesus were you? LDS just happen to have a more accurate & complete PICTURE of the TRUE Jesus Christ, Son of God, born to Mary - then the rest of Christianity sees and knows. Same Jesus - bigger picture of just who HE is. Nothing too complicated in that reality now is there brother?
- 1 decade ago
Yes, we do have different views, definitely :) This was quite a thorough read. We also believe Jesus Christ did everything in the Bible literally.
Yes, different views...so...? So the point being?
Yet, no one ever mentions that we do have similarities.
"The LDS jesus was Jehovah but could not have been according to the LDS rules of achieving Godhood.
The LDS jesus is considered to be the Jehovah of Old, but the LDS church says you have come to earth and get a body and obey your way to Godhood, so really the LDS jesus could not have been Jehovah."
Um... We believe Jesus Christ received the fulness of Godhead before, but He still needed a physical body.
BTW good job on your research.

Yawn you quotes books and talks that aren't official LDS doctrine nor from the scriptures and add to the quotes that aren't there originally.
I can quote the founders of the Southern Baptist Convention who came into existance claiming slavery is in the bible.
I also noticed you quote from the Seer which had dubbed heretical by the first presidency when it was printed.
