Ok I am 38 weeks and 2 cm dilated 100% effaced, and the baby is as low and she can go!?

However I am not in labor. I have these HORRIBLE knife like pains in my lover abdomen. I am not sure what they are. Sometimes my uterus is hard and tight but not always. Any idea what this is?

Update:

baby can't engage anymore..so I think that is why I am confused. My doctor said she doesn't know why she hasn't come out yet..

Update 2:

Ok I am sorry the midwife said she was as far down as she could go and if I was fully dialated she would probably pop out with just one or two pushes. So I am sorry if I misunderstood what you said.

It's coming soon, you just have to wait it out some more until you go into real labor. You'll know because your water will break and/or the contractions will be very painful, coming about every 5-6 minutes apart...that's when you go to the hospital. Just be patient mama unless your doctor wants to induce you. Good luck.

Doesn't sound like labor, you'll know when your in labor. It just sounds like stretching as baby engages more

Edit: if baby cannot engage anymore then that means baby is crowning. Engaging goes through stations there is -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +4. Anything above 0 means baby is above pelvis. 0 means baby is at the pelvis, +1 means baby is slightly in pelvis, +2 baby is further into pelvis, +3 baby is literally "right there" and +4 is crowning. So unless your baby is crowning, then chances are baby is engaging more.

Since your already 100% effaced, your labor will probably start fast and you will know when it's time. You wont feel the need to question "is this it," you will just know. Make sure bags are packed and carseat is in the car

Have you tried walking? Doing squats also help lower baby some more, a lot of women swear they went into labor when they got on hands and knees to scrub the floors. Try a warm shower, if your already experiencing contractions (even if you can't feel them) the shower may trigger them.
