Seeing better with glasses tilted.?

Lately I have noticed that things look a bit more sharp when I tilt my glasses forward until the ear pieces come up out from behind my ears. Can anyone explain this? Thank you. This happens for both my distance glasses and my computer glasses.

When you tilt your glasses in the manner you described you are indeed changing the power effect they have on your eyes. The lenses don't change power but you are causing the light passing through them to change as if the lenses power had changed. You are inducing astigmatism power changes and may also change the spherical power to some degree (the nearsighted / farsighted part of your prescription). So, if tilting your glasses improves your vision this indicates that you need a prescription change. Go in and have an examination done.

    Pantoscopic Tilt

Tilting your glasses that way is called pantoscopic tilt. Many frames can be adjusted that way so they have that angle in front of your eye without the earpiece being off your ear. (some frames, depending on design, are hard to adjust this way) A certain amount of pantoscopic tilt is nice because you are looking through the lens at a better angle when you have a downward gaze. It also reduces reflections from behind and above -- It also looks a little nicer on your face if it's done the correct amount. Everyone is a little different when it comes to how much angle they like on their glasses---it's trial and error. Go back and see if they can angle them the way you like. good luck

what you are actually doing is playing with the back vertex distance or bvd of your glasses.your not altering the prescription just an easy way to put it is just increasing the magnification of the actual lens.

if your noticing a significant change in the prescription the way you would normally wear your specs then it's time to get your eyes retested

Get your prescription checked ! And have the alignment of your eyes in relation to the lenses in your glasses checked.
