What are compatible numbers in math.?

I've never heard of the term before. Apparently it's a name they gave to numbers you can use to do mental math to estimate an answer.
For instance, 12 / 3.7 isn't a simple problem to do mentally, but 4 is close to 3.7 and 12 / 4 = 3 is easily done mentally, so 4 is "compatible" with 3.7 in this case.
Again, I've never heard of this term before. When I started learning multiplication, I believe I noticed I could do this myself, but I never thought it necessary to call them anything...
