A question for everyone regarding Obama, whether pro or against?

To find some common ground here, I would like to ask this related to Obama.

- what is ONE thing you support about Obama if you are against him? I know it sounds contradictory, but even if you dislike him, any one thing that has impressed you coming from him?

and likewise

- what is ONE thing you dislike about Obama if you support him? These could be answered in terms of political ideologies, his administration, etc.

Just curious, and thanks.

i am from none of the mentioned groups. he is not any different than ie; Bush. he is going to follow he same scenario and the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer!

RomeyM: using your own example, where does the water come from? it either comes from the underground or it is the water which evaporated for the surface ie; oceans and poured over the mountains in the form of rain and/or snow. that is how water streams down the mountain. i am afraid that you have been brainwashed to only see part of the picture and not the whole picture, if you know what i mean!

I can't really think of anywhere I agree with him. He favors keeping some troops in Iraq, wants to escalate the War on Afghanistan (and attack a few other countries), opposes gay marriage, favors higher taxes, favors anti-gun legislation, favors pork barrel spending (such as his plan to waste trillions of dollars on road-building), favors the Federal Reserve, opposed the partial-birth abortion ban, and favors bailouts for failed corporations.

I guess I probably have the most agreement with him on immigration. With the exception of his vote for that wasteful "Secure Border Fence" Act, I can't find much I disagree with him on relating to that issue.

I'm amazed that so many people who believe in the false left-right paradigm have completely misread Obama and think that he is much further "left" than he actually is (he is extreme-"left" on the economy, but is center-"right" on everything else).

I hate to be partisan about this, but my biggest problem with Obama is that he will not be liberal enough economically. His economic staff betrays that fact.

But a general Republican plank I support is nuclear power. The government should match investments or something of the like to build a new fleet of nuclear plants, soon.

  • I've supported President-Elect Barack Obama since he declared his candidacy in February 2007. When you support a person you do not discuss your dislike for his decision unless he asks you directly. That's why it's called "support".

I can appreciate that Obama has helped to break down the race barrier in the United States.

I don't like the fact he is a liar for starters but most politicians are, he is just a little shadier than the rest. I also hate his socialism ideas, they are going to destroy this country. Should we be like Sweden? Sure it's pretty and all but...

Sweden is the largest welfare state in the world. This is where entrepreneurs are treated like piranhas, the income tax rate is 55% (plus property, sales & excise pushing to around 70%) and their claim on wealth is a measure of their "wealth distribution" not on how much disposal income people have left to buy things.

Their claim on excellent unemployment rates and low homelessness is all a numbers game: Putting people into government housing and placing them in government jobs where they can take a year or more off with full pay. This is more welfare. But Sweden doesn't count those people into their reports.

People need to take responsibility for their lives. Socialism condones laziness.

The way I look at it, water streams down from the mountain. And entrepreneurs, not government, create mountains that feed the economy thus jobs for us little folk. Whether we like it or not there something to be said for creating an environment where businesses can thrive.

i disagree with Obama and basically every issue.... but i like Obama.. he seems concerned for the people... its just that i think the founding fathers set up our Gov to be a hands off Gov. and that is best. Gov is just to wasteful to help.. i think obama would be a better local politician, where he had more power to help

Voted for him despite historically being more Conservative. I don't like his extremely liberal voting record - particularly on fiscal matters. However I'm putting my faith in his intelligence and ability to adapt. McCain/Palin was a terrible ticket.

At this point, I honestly can't think of one thing that I support about him. The things or thing that I dislike about him is he is too mysterious. Nobody that either supports him or does not, knows much about the man.

I support his changed view on the Iraq War, of keeping the troops there longer. To responsibly withdraw the soldiers, instead of yanking them out of there too soon.

I fear it is for alternative motives, though.
