What is the gospel (good news) that saves today?

How many believers actually know where to find this good news? Do professing Christians know that the gospel Peter preached is not saving anyone today?

Discussion?

Update:

Peter preached "repent and be baptized" to the NATION of Israel. He never preached Christs death, burial and resurrection as the means by which all could be saved. He preached the KINGDOM gospel to Gods KINGDOM people...Israel.

We are Gods heavenly people with a different calling, a different apostle and a different destination. Check it out in scripture.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

There is much confusion about what is the gospel that saves us today. With a little study it is easy to see Peter and the other eleven Apostles were sent to Israel to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. Israel rejected God's Son. So Paul was sent preaching the Gospel of Grace to the Gentiles. The proper teaching on salvation for this age of grace can only be found in Paul's Epistles

“Gospel” means “good news,” and surely, good news is welcome not just at Christmastime but anytime. However, the Gospel is not just any good news. It is a specific good news from a definite source about a particular subject. It is, in fact, a message that God has appointed to be announced to all mankind

Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines “Gospel” as “the message concerning Christ, the kingdom of God, and salvation.

The newborn Jesus would grow up to be the Christ, the promised Messiah. He would reveal God’s purpose for salvation, give up his perfect human life in behalf of mankind, be resurrected, and then become the chosen King of God’s Kingdom. Good news indeed! That is why the message about him is called the Gospel.

Jesus set out on a tour of all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news of the kingdom.” (Matthew 9:35) His preaching was not just to make people feel better. Mark records Jesus as saying: “The appointed time has been fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Be repentant, you people, and have faith in the good news.” (Mark 1:15) Yes, those who responded and obeyed the good news found that it changed their lives.

After Jesus’ death, his followers continued to preach the Gospel. Not only did they speak about the Kingdom but they added the happy news that Jesus had been resurrected to God’s right hand in the heavens and had offered the value of his perfect human life in behalf of mankind. As the one chosen by God to rule over all the earth as King of God’s Kingdom, he would be God’s Agent in destroying God’s enemies and in restoring the earth to a paradise.—Acts 2:32-36; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10; Hebrews 9:24-28; Revelation 22:1-5.

Today, the good news includes a further element. According to all the evidence of the fulfillment of prophecy, Jesus has now been enthroned, and we are living in the last days of this system of things. (2 Timothy 3:1-5; Revelation 12:7-12) The time when the Kingdom will act against God’s enemies is rapidly approaching. What better news could there be?

The Gospel of grace is The finished work of the cross. That Humanity's sin ( past Present & future) has been punished at the cross 2000 years ago."For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken," Says the LORD who has compassion on you. Isiah 54 :10

    "The apostle"

the word " repent" means "metaneo"

It means " Change the way you think," That is what repentance is. Yes, godly sorrow brings change of thinking.:)

    God bless you all.

  • The Gospel of Jesus as preached by Peter is

That Jesus is the Christ or Messiah

That He stepped in to our place of punishment which we justly deserved from a Holy God His Father and took our Punishment which was Death, He was Buried and He Rose again and If we believe this and repent of our sins then we are saved form that penalty and are raised to Eternal Life through that belief in Him.

This is the Saving Grace Gospel and it is presented many places in the Holy and Inerrant Word of God but my favorite is John 3:16,17,18

because it was given by Jesus Himself to a Pharisee named Nicodemus. If the Lord Himself said it I believe it and that Settles it for me!

The good news is that God sent his son Jesus and those who believe in him will have everlasting life. Peter may have preached it but Jesus preached it first and the Old Testament predicted it.

There is only one way to the father and that is through his son. Wide is the gates of hell but narrow is the gate to heaven.

Read Act 2:14-47 paying close attention to what he is saying. Yes he preached repent, believe and be babtized in Jesus to be saved. That is what is saving people today cause that is the way to be saved and the only way.

Jesus himself says that he did not come to judge man but to save man.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is what saves today, saved yesterday, and will save tomorrow. That Jesus Christ died for our sins on a cruel cross, was buried and rose again the third day, claiming the victory of death, hell, and the grave. Those who will accept him as their Savior will have eternal life with Him in Heaven. Those who will not will suffer eternal death in the Lake of Fire, Hell.

It hasn't changed. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Act 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Act 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

  • It's interesting that so few people pointed out the significance of LOVE.

    Jesus must weep at this.

    Love.

Telling people they are damned to hell if they don't agree with your opinions about the Bible is not preaching the Gospel. Loving them as Jesus did: that is the real Gospel.
