try a lighter roast. something with 100 arabica beans. go to a local coffee shop, not one of the chains. preferably someplace that roasts their own coffee. coffee once roasted will last a week or two at it's peak, once ground it is at its best for the next couple of minutes so keep that in mind also.

coffee is higher in caffeine at a lighter roast, and has a lighter "grassy" flavor. The longer it is roasted the more the flavor develops kind of caramelizing the beans. There is also a loss in caffeine the darker it is roasted.

If you go to a local coffee shop talk with your barista and tell them you are new to coffee and see what they recommend. keep going back to them and giving them feedback on what you liked and didn't.

there isn't a right kind or roast or drink, it is personal preference. Drinks that have more milk and fat won't taste as bitter, so if it is bitter tasting try adding some half and half. Try not to add so much where you can't even taste the coffee though. Experiment with different roasts etc. Careful! it is hard to quit once you are hooked =)

  • There are lots of different way to drink coffee.

I always have it with sugar and mild.

I don't know how anyone can drink it without sugar. It is so bitter.

Try Cappuccino or Cafe Latte. Don't add the sugar until you've tasted it. Too sweet is almost as bad as bitter.

When you go to a cafe which offers a lot of different types of coffee experiment and try a different one each time you're there. Try to find a traditional style Italian cafe, not Starbucks of Costa.

    Enjoy.

It depends on your preference. You can add creamer and coffee syrups to alter the taste to your liking. Also, you could have made the coffee a bit too strong and that's why it tasted burnt. And some brands just suck, I'd recommend dunkin' donuts coffee.

I would agree that coffee is an acquired taste. I love coffee candy so I add coffeemate creamer and sugar to mine. As the years go by I try it with less and less. Farmer Brother's Coffee is great! Also you might try Maxwell House

Try Folgers Vanilla Biscotti or hazelnut. I have to mix a good amount of sugar and cream with mine to get a taste I like. Also try a Flavored creamer like Hazelnut. I like Vanilla biscotti coffee about 1 and a half tsps of sugar and a lot of Hazelnut cream until its a sand color in a regular coffee cup..

that's the two. in case you drink espresso that has caffeine in it, that is addictive. I drink decaf because of the fact i like flavored coffees and not because of the fact i % it to maintain me unsleeping. there's no longer the rest that tastes like the flavour of espresso so some might like it and a few won't. some human beings want the flavored varieties and a few like their espresso black and undeniable.

    well, that is pretty true...

But at the same time, you need to figure out how you like to take it. It may happen that you don't like it liquid at all, maybe it doesn't go down right. But if its in a mixed drink like a frapphochino, it tastes amazing..

    answer mine?

Have a Frappuccino from Starbucks, they're lovely, cold, and sweet.

Espresso with sugar in it is lovely. Try them out.
