Coffee is like wine or cheese. It comes in hundreds of different varieties, blends, and roasts. I recommend starting with a Colombian or arabica medium roast and sample the different brands until you learn to taste the subtle differences. To really taste coffee you don't drink it, you sip it. Professional taste testers then spew it back out in a cup, but that's not really my thing. Once you learn to taste it, switch between the different roasts from light to dark. Try different grinds and brewing methods like turkish, espresso, drip, and percolate. Any Barista worth his beans should be able to walk you through this. Jamaican Blue Mountain is the best and avoid Starbucks like the plague.
