Do we want a "celebrity" President where the media cares more about his MP3 player choice than policy?

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16537.ht...

Barack Obama unwittingly caused a kerfuffle the other day when a reporter spotted him working out with a Microsoft Zune — rather than his trusty iPod.

When word got out, Apple geeks went crazy, and the media — from Wired to the Wall Street Journal — flooded the zone. Suddenly, the phone lines at the Obama transition office were ringing with questions from reporters who passed up other pressing curiosities — who will be the education secretary? — to unpack Obama’s choice of MP3 players.

Welcome to the world of the celebrity president.

I, for one, am a registered Democrat who voted for McCain simply because the left-wing media made sure that I knew both the pros and cons of voting for McCain.

I STILL don't know anything about Obama. I didn't want to vote for someone who kept way too many secrets from the American people. Why didn't we see his college records, and ALL his medical records? And the press let him get away with it. THAT should have made many more voters run for the hills. But, no.

And as you said, lately, we get the crap that is so very unimportant. Like, the DOG!! Who cares about the girls dogs? Not I. I care about what policies we can expect. I care about who BO owes political favors to (which of his unsavory relationships does he owe the most to?)

To Lucy - you think Illinois is a Republican state? How corrupt is Illinois? Have you already forgotten about their governor? Geez.

In 2005 American Idol tallied 500 million votes which people paid to cast. In the 2004 election, only 122 million votes were cast.

This year 62% of eligible voters bothered to cast a vote (208 million eligible voters (2004), 129 million votes cast in 2008).

69.5 million of us - or 33% of eligible voters - comprised the overwhelming landslide that resulted in Obama's election.

Nearly 80 million of us - 38% of eligible voters - didn't care enough to have a voice in this election year when the literal future of our country was at stake.

Generally, as a people, we are not interested in policy or politics. At least the media cares about something.

I think they do it on purpose,in order to divert the attention away from his ideas. After all, most of his policy ideas are crap.

The media has been in the bag for the Obamassiah since day one.Why would that change now? So now they cover the "fluff",in order to intentionally avoid the real substance.

After all, which would Obama rather have them talk about? His MP3 player,or his plans to destroy our Health Care system in order to cover a few loafers and losers,or his ideas to make sure that Energy costs double or triple for the average American,or his ideas to saddle business and investors with ever increasing tax burdens in the middle of a recession,or his ideas to try even more idiotic lieberal ideas to fix our Education system(as if they've haven't done enough damage over the last 40 years)

lucy2, guess u forgot about IL and LA, the two most corrupt states by any standard and they are run by DEMOCRATS dear.

obama has been treated like a rock star, no doubt about it. since the media won't address anything serious, they think trivia means news and some agree with them, hanging on everything Obama.

Sure. Why not? Obama's policies are bound to be fascist in nature. He can be a reluctant fascist or an enthusiastic fascist, like Bush, but fascist he will be. The super rich fascists who own and run the planet: all politics, all societies, all media, wouldn't allow it to be any other way.

I think it is more of a reflection of the general population's priorities. If a majority of Americans would tune out this kind of dribble, the media would quit covering it...

Commander... the media did not promote Palin, they denigrated her.

You're talking about a media that has promoted Sarah Palin, a bimbo who thinks Africa is a country, as a legitimate choice for commander in chief of this country.

Thankfully, most of this country is not led around by a nose ring by the media, the way neocons are.

That's why they made the intelligent choice for president in spite of a corporatized media that is obsessed with replacining news with entertainment.

Your beef is with this tabloid media, not the President of the United States. It obviously wasn't a problem for the President as he wore it. I am glad to to know, though, that we finally have a President that is smart enough to know what an MP3 player is, let alone how to use one.

You realise, of course, that none of this rabid media focus on superficial elements was invited by Mister Obama, don't you?

That Obama wants the media to focus on his policy choices more than anything else? (Indicated by his entire policy list being spelt out on his website and literature for months)

It is entirely the fault of the superficial American media. Not Barack Obama. And, yes, quite the same effect was felt around the time of Ronald "Laissez-Faire Failure" Reagan.

Maybe we could download some subliminal messages to those MP3 players and convince him to move back to his country.
