Does anybody know about motorcycles in India?

I will be in New Delhi this Christmas. I found one company, but it charges about $100/week for a motorcycle--a lot for India. Anybody know where I could get a better deal?

Thank you for your quick reply hat-a-tat. There's supposedly a street by the name of "karol bagh," which is supposed to have cheap bikes for rent. The company I was speaking with, India Bikes, said they're running out fast. Do you think its an ok bet to see if karol bagh still has any (high tourist volume during christmas, i imagine). also, do you think getting them off the street like this is safe--good bikes and all? Thanks again for your help.

In Delhi you can hire Motorcycles from karol bagh. Mostly Enfields, you can choose from 350cc & 500cc. Good place to rent is Lalli Singh, he is an old hand and still doing well but maybe bit expensive than others. You can negotiate rent somewhere between Rs. 100-300 perday.

I personally find ride from Delhi to Manali bit boring on bike. Almost half of the road is highway which is just cruising along. Good(bit difficult) ride starts from Swarghat (border of Punjab and Himachal), thats where the hills starts.

I personally like to take the bus from Delhi to manali and then rent one in Manali. Its so much less of hassel and if anything goes wrong, you can always bring the bike to the guy in Manali for fixing it up.

In Manali, you can rent bike (100cc as well as Enfields) from Anu Automobiles on the rohtang Road, near Tibetean Colony. This road is when coming from main bazar, cross the wooden brigde and turn left..go 100mtr and its on the left side of the road.

why don't you wait until you get there & hire one? the quote you got is totally over the top for India.....in Goa, India...we pay £2 per day....it should be pretty much the same in Delhi.
