Serious Question About Giants-Cowboys?

I know the Giants have won the NFC East. But let's say, hypothetically, they lose out and the Cowboys win out.

This means:

-Both teams are 11-5

-The teams split with each other

-Both are 4-2 in the NFC East

-Both are 8-4 against the NFC

-Both are 3-1 against the AFC

So how is it already determined the Giants have won the division? Wouldn't it come down to other tiebreakers (like points scored) that are impossible to predict now?

Update:

I said if Dallas wins out. That means they would split with the Giants.

Update 2:

Thank you, CevS, the only serious answer on here. I guess the Giants had the tougher strength of schedule. That's what I was looking for.

How come all the dumbasses are gathering on Y/A? No, not the one who asked the answer, the answerers. I guess.. hmm..

These are all the tiebreakers -

    Two Clubs

    1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).

    2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.

    3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.

    4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

    5. Strength of victory.

    6. Strength of schedule.

    7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

    8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.

    9. Best net points in common games.

    10. Best net points in all games.

    11. Best net touchdowns in all games.

    12. Coin toss

As for why they put the mark like the Giants has clinched the division. I dunno, but I think the Cowboys would have an asterisk too if it really happened.

Source(s): If it comes to the Strength of Schedule tiebreaker. It'll make history, since Strength of Victory has been the furthest one used.

I think this one actually comes down to W-L against common opponents.

The Giants remaining games: Dallas, Carolina and Minnesota. If Dallas wins, they would split the division games. Dallas did not play the Panthers or Vikings this season.

If the scenario you say plays out, Dallas still lost to Pittsburgh. NY beat Pittsburgh. Dallas lost to St. Louis. NY beat St. Louis. Dallas lost to Washington. NY beat the Redskins twice.

The remaining games don't matter because the best the Cowboys can do it tie with the Giants. But, there's no way to get the common opponent tiebreaker for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are playing better football right now, as you said, and the cowboys still sting from the loss at home by the giants. And that was romo's debut and had a poor game, as well as owens..i say the cowboys are looking for revenge and to take the east. the Giants have taken a downward slope. and they will fall. dallas has the offense to match NY and vice versa, but dallas has a much better defense. and with burress and shockey being the only 'good' targets for manning, i see the cowboys pulling out another W and another straight loss for NY. sad but true!

I don't know exactly how it is determined but there are a lot of tie breakers that are put into place. the number of points is pretty far down the list. I believe it is what games they the two teams have in schedule that determines it. Also, Strength of schedule is in there too.

Because of our win over Pits and your loss to Pits and our win over Arizona and your loss to Arizona or win over the Rams and your loss to the Rams it's games like that really bite you in the end...Besides you lose to the Giants Tonight...The final nail in your season boys Fan!

Jerry Jones would give Roger Goodell a tug job to get the Cowboys in.

Then TO would go to the media saying that Jerry is hogging the balls.

And Romo would try to throw a box of kleenex to Jerry so he could clean up, only to have it intercepted.

i guess because there's a slim chance that the giants will lose all 3 of there upcoming matchups.

Didn't the Giants already beat the Cowboys this season? Sounds like the tie breaker has already been determined.

Thumbs up to those who agree.
