From Jobber to Champion?

Jeff Hardy's title win last night was truly the climax of an epic journey. The Hardys have been with the WWE for about 12 years now. For the first years of his career Jeff Hardy was a jobber. To me the fact that it has taken Hardy 12 years to climb from dark match jobber to WWE chamion makes it that much special. Giving someone a mega push mere months after they enter WWE is never good. Putting the title on them is even worse. A wrestler should be given time to make a connection with the fans, and despite what WWE thinks that takes years. Hardy's title win ranks up there with Benoit's, Guerrero's, and Van Dam's in term of how special it is because it got to the point that fans were begging WWE to put the title on them. Putting the title on someone before there is a real connection almost always turns out bad. The reason for this is because the wrestler, themself, isn't ready to carry that amount of weight, and the fans aren't ready to accept them as champion. Your thoughts?

I really don't care about the haters of Jeff Hardy - he deserves this! Lied about his age when he debuted, got released and has been suspended twice! How determined is Jeff Hardy? Very much! WWE trust him enough to put the title on him and I, for one, would like to see a long title reign for Hardy. He's been in many great matches, TLC, Ladder and single matches against Shawn Michaels, Triple H, John Morrison and is a perfect role model for the kids

If this is a short-term run to simply put the strap on someone else, then it is a cheap payoff by the company for the years he did jobs as a single's wrestler. I don't know how many seats will be filled - or merchandise sold - at house shows with him featured in the main event, so this reign may be quick.

The transformation from what the Hardy Boys (characters) initially were when they started as a tag team is even more fascinating. A back story that was controversial - some may say that it was tasteless - has evolved into both being solid fan favorites, no matter what the script writers attempt to toss into the mix.

  • I agree with you. I have been a Jeff Hardy fan for years and he was a jobber or the underdog. I am really happy that he has finally won the title that he deserves. Now he gets to share the legacy with some of WWE's greatest wrestlers like The Rock, Ric Flair, and Rob Van Dam. Also now it is hard to choose who is better Matt or Jeff because before Matt and Jeff were tied because they both won Tag titles or smaller ones. Then Matt got a big one and was thought to be better. Now Jeff has won the WWE title and has proven worthy of Matt. I agree with you that he has gone a long way in getting here by fighting Undertaker, Triple H, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Kendrick, and Edge. Jeff is now a greater wrestler.

I think Jeff Hardy is a dream come true for him. He has overcome everything and he has worked for this moment for over 12 yrs. He has worked though all his problems with drugs and the difficulties that were thrown in his way. Jeff Hardy winning the title was truly amazing simply because it was such a indescribable moment. I physically can't think of the words that describe how great his win was. It was something that the fans wanted. Even haters can't say they are mad or angry. Even they know that Jeff earned and deserved this title win. To me, this was unbelievably amazing

It has been a great journey, and has provided us with some epic wrestling and entertainment. Heres hoping that his title reign lasts as long as his pursuit for the title!

Jeff Hardy's reign as WWE champ will hopefully be short-lived. One of my least favorite workers in the WWE (he has about four moves in his reportoire). The only reason he was given the belt is because he sells a lot of T-shirts and action figures.

  • I definitely agree with you. Hardy has worked long and hard for that championship and he has earned it!- putting his body at risk, doing those amazing high-flying stunts! Amazing! Congratulations to jeff :)
