My dog ate a broken dinner plate?
My 2 year old Golden Retriever found a broken porcelain plate in the garbage and started chewing it up and swallowing it.
By the time we got to him, he was crunching down a pretty big peice and i'm not sure how much he ate. It has been about 5 hours and no sign of him hurting or anything. What do you think I should do? Just wait it out or take him into the vet?

Well, since it been 5 hours it may have already emptied into the intestinal tract. Sometimes we recommend feeding a bulky diet (bread, dog food, etc) but this may not help now.
You're options are to take it to a vet, have radiographs taken to see if there is porcelain in the dog and where and if it may pass. The dog may or may not need an enterotomy to get it out.
Or you can wait and see if the dog gets sick. Watch for inappetence, vomiting, painful abdomen and see a vet ASAP if noticed.
The danger is that the porcelain may cause intestinal perforation and cause peritonitis and possible sepsis.
Either way, if your pet ingested this, it's not going to be a cheap fix. A dog with an uncomplicated enterotomy may cost $1500-2500. A dog with enterotomies, peritonitis and possible sepsis may cost $2500-5000.

Vet immediately! He might be suffering from internal damage that has not shown yet. This can be deadly, not to mention cause the poor thing to suffer! Definitely go to a vet! Good luck; hope he's okay!

take him to the vet just to be safe,
It may not be hurting him yet, but if they do an xray they should be able to see how big the pieces are and decide from tehre if they will cause problems as they go through him ,

aaawww! Dogs are so thick aren't they?! I would take him to the vet or at least phone the vet because it might cause him a problem when he tries to pass it.

when my boston terrier was a puppy he ate a whole bunch of compact discs. i waited it out and he was fine. i would wait and see... he might have just crunched it and spit it out into smaller pieces. check his stool and make sure there isn't any blood in it... if there is blood, he could have internal bleeding, in which case i'd send him to the vet asap.

take him to your local vet and have him completely checked over because that could do damage to your dogs stomach

Check his poop for plate pieces. If its there then it passed naturally and you are lucky. If it hasn't passed in two days, take him to the vet.
Be more careful next time.
